			You didn't waste a day....
You learned about a car, learned more about what you want in a car, learned more about what to look for pre-PPI, learned what you don't want, learned what was available at a price.

The first rule of buying is don't buy the first one you see/drive . (I violated it with each of mine.)

And in defense of the owner, the hvac is not intuitive in the slightest. I leave mine on auto and hit the plus and minus and leave it at that.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck with oil and such though, definitely a good car to get away from.

I concur. My wife and kids were driving back from a Nebraska vacation and I flew to Denver to meet them and I had 4 Porsches to look at. We stopped at the one that I was most interested, at an automotive "Pawn Shop" on Colfax. The car was the only one parked inside and it had a sign on it that said, "do not touch". haha! I told my son that sign didn't apply to us because we were considering buying the car. They spent quite a while getting the car out of the building, it had to fit out the double doors at quite an angle because there was a significant pitch drop in the pavement leading outside the doors. Eventually, they got it out without scraping the bottom. My wife and I left the kids with the Pawn Shop owner. I don't know what my kids were thinking. We took the car for a spin and were messing with the A/C controls and fumbling with them randomly till we finally figured it out as was described above. They are not intuitively obvious. I still hit the wrong button from time to time and I've been driving it regularly for two years now. So...we got back to the store and our kids were still there unviolated, safe and sound. We bought the car right there on the spot. It has been a joy to own and drive. My wife and I are taking an anniverssary trip to Crested Butte in about 4 weeks in it. We did that the first fall we bought it.

Maybe I'm a frickin genius, but the climate control is really easy to use. I don't understand the problems you all are having.

Maybe it's because I rent a lot of cars and they all have different methods of operation

Naw, I' m a frickin genius. A poor one, but a genius nonetheless

You're a genius. I don't have any problems with it and I'm a genius, so logic dictates that you must be, also.

Well, count me as a genius cause I figured it out too….and I never drove a 986 until that particular day.

So, how many geniuses do we have now? Three?

You have a snowflake. An up arrow, a down arrow, a vent button, a recirculate, defrost, and auto button.

Other then the defrost and recirculate button that all might as well be hieroglyphics.

Why not a dial with feet, face, and feet and face? I'll admit dials are tachy (intentional pun) and prefer the way our cars are, but it's tough to figure out.

Please show us where Porsche recommends annual oil changes on 986's regardless of mileage?
I am seeing a recommendation to *check the oil level* (not change the oil) every year, regardless of mileage on 986's...

snowflake - very common for AC
Up arrow - higher temp or fan
down arrow - lower temp or fan
the others startling from the top are defrost vent, dash vent, floor vent

all pretty explanatory and very common Icons

not putting you down, granted you are fairly young and have not had a bunch of cars.

feet, face, and feet and face would be pretty cool

All experience before the boxsters were domesticated or Asian. With a fan speed nob, a temp nob, and a vent nob (floor, dash, or defrost usually.)

Providing all the same controls but with individual buttons and functions can be seen as over complicating things.

However as stated, I put it on auto and when I get hot I hit the minus and cold I hit the plus, works great and is simple enough haha!
