What's wrong with you people? Everyone knows changing your own oil is for poor people. Just lease a new super car when it's time for an oil change. #ucaneatyourcheesecakeandhaveittoo

The cost of super car maintenance is crazy money and many sell rather than do it. Routine maintenance on a Bugatti Veron, McClaren or Le Ferrari is $40-60k.

Speaking of dealers - this morning my away-at-college son took his 2003 BMW X5 with 90K miles to the dealer to have the automatic transmission checked (did not downshift from a higher gear when he came to a stop one time last week - been fine since - figured he'd have it checked before he drove 300 miles home tomorrow).
The dealer emailed me the inspection report recommending $12,747.80 in repairs including $7,821.53 for a brand new factory transmission. Replacing 6 spark plugs was only $480.24. I politely declined. What's not to like about dealers? :D |
My dealer definitely has two levels of service. 911 white glove, and all beneath.
Took it to dealer for brake fluid flush before my Motive arrived. Got it back and noticed after they closed the pool of brake fluid in each barrel. That's right. Bled them wheels on. Took lacquer thinner to wipe them clean. Tech had used a rag to wipe the mess but it made a thick patch with brake dust where it pooled up. Ran down the outer edge of a brake pad too. Washed them all out that night myself. Wasn't leaving it that way. The dealer offered a free detail after the GM called back after I left a detailed survey reply that went to PNA then is sent back to Porsche Salt Lake City. Porsche was all over that. |
I don't go to the dealer, but I do pay my indie shop over $200 every 8 weeks to do a complete service and checkup on my Boxster. It's worth it to me, because they can do things I can't at an experience level that I don't have and don't have the equipment and time to learn.
In my case my car is another work tool like my camera equipment and computers. It pays for itself many times over but has to be properly taken care of to get the most out of it. |
