I had to ask
I was curious on Saturday afternoon after working on the Boxster. So for a laugh I called the dealership for a price on an oil change. They said around ~$300.00. Holy Cow!

You get like a mini diagnostics of the whole vehicle. It's actually a nice service that the P dealer here offers

Brumos quoted me $330 to do that, with an inspection. No thanks, I'm able to do that myself - plus I actually enjoy doing the maintenance.

It really is amazing how some here are totally clueless
Getting an oil change at a dealer is like burning money, although they may finger your sump http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1439909578.jpg |
Hold on now
When the Dealership does an oil change they add Unicorn urine as an additive (Helps lubricate the IMSB) so you only need to do the service every 15,000 miles. |
Wait, we can't change our own oil sans unicorn urine every 15000 miles?
 |

or Kirkland Organic Extra Virgin Olive oil And then you can go to 30,000 between changes |
What if I add m@rV3l mÿst3ry 0ił? I get an extra 10k miles, riiiiiight?

It's a pleasant experience for a new Porsche owner. It's good for new owners to go and agree to all the recommended repairs and when they give it to you they even wash the carpet. You spend like 6k on the visit but it's so worth it. They wash the engine and underbelly. The next time you do an oil change yourself, you know everything is perfect. From suspension arms to bushings and everything. Onetime cost to agree to all their request but you et a great vehicle back that you can work on (: Great experience Porsche Miramar (: Recommended repairs without tires $6,890. With tires. $9,450. Bought Tires at discount tires, I think Pzeros complete service Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Who pays $2500 for tires??? Even if you have cash to blow, I think a tiger as a pet would be much cooler than $2500 tires for the street.

Forums like this exist for a large part to help correct mistakes made by DIY guys.
With a dealer oil change, the service is done by a professional with eyes for details and potential problems and the experience to direct what to look for. You'll get a better quality filter than you can get at PepBoys, too. You also avoid the danger of crawling under your car while it's up on jackstands. If you're truly good at this stuff go right ahead, but there is ZERO reason to badmouth dealers. In the long run, you can't operate any car without one and to think otherwise is delusional. |

I can certainly operate my car without a dealer.

Oil $50 Walmart (Mobile 1) Filter $10 (NAPA) Crush washer $1 Total materials: $61 Dealer Labor: $239-269 per hour ???? I'll bet it only takes them 1/2 hour $478-538 per hour ????????? DIY With Ramps takes 1 hour( Jacking up 1.5 hours) and that's just to make sure Oil is all out No reason to bad mouth dealers @ $230+/hour. Now I understand why there is such a line for Oil changes outside my local dealer I'm going to have to eat my words someday when I have to go there |

You overpaid $20k for a Boxster that needs $7k worth of repairs??? You are also a liar. Wash the engine during an oil change, I doubt it Prove your BS, post a copy of the paperwork and no, your BS about not buying a new car because its too much car for you is a load of crap If in fact you make the money you say you do, you would have no problem leasing a car GO AWAY :troll: http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1439923058.jpg |

Oil changes are about as easy as they can be on a Boxster |
There are two reasons to go to the dealer for routine service. One is to catch mechanical issues while the car is still under warranty as well as build a rapport with the dealer so that when your engine/major component needs to be replaced just as the warranty ends, they will extend goodwill to you and fix it at a discount. Second to get any software updates that may have been made since your car left the factory.
|
If it's a newer Boxster sure but if I buy a 2000 Boxster I'm doing it all myself. [emoji106]

What's wrong with you people? Everyone knows changing your own oil is for poor people. Just lease a new super car when it's time for an oil change. #ucaneatyourcheesecakeandhaveittoo

The cost of super car maintenance is crazy money and many sell rather than do it. Routine maintenance on a Bugatti Veron, McClaren or Le Ferrari is $40-60k.

Speaking of dealers - this morning my away-at-college son took his 2003 BMW X5 with 90K miles to the dealer to have the automatic transmission checked (did not downshift from a higher gear when he came to a stop one time last week - been fine since - figured he'd have it checked before he drove 300 miles home tomorrow).
The dealer emailed me the inspection report recommending $12,747.80 in repairs including $7,821.53 for a brand new factory transmission. Replacing 6 spark plugs was only $480.24. I politely declined. What's not to like about dealers? :D |
My dealer definitely has two levels of service. 911 white glove, and all beneath.
Took it to dealer for brake fluid flush before my Motive arrived. Got it back and noticed after they closed the pool of brake fluid in each barrel. That's right. Bled them wheels on. Took lacquer thinner to wipe them clean. Tech had used a rag to wipe the mess but it made a thick patch with brake dust where it pooled up. Ran down the outer edge of a brake pad too. Washed them all out that night myself. Wasn't leaving it that way. The dealer offered a free detail after the GM called back after I left a detailed survey reply that went to PNA then is sent back to Porsche Salt Lake City. Porsche was all over that. |
I don't go to the dealer, but I do pay my indie shop over $200 every 8 weeks to do a complete service and checkup on my Boxster. It's worth it to me, because they can do things I can't at an experience level that I don't have and don't have the equipment and time to learn.
In my case my car is another work tool like my camera equipment and computers. It pays for itself many times over but has to be properly taken care of to get the most out of it. |
