anyone else had prob c/ sidemarkers popping out

so a while back I bought the $30 clear side markers and popped the old ones out and the put the new ones in. well, the passenger side one keeps popping out on its own. i've actually had to use a bit of ductape on the 'hinge' points to get it to stay put, but eventually it still works its way loose. in leiu of supergluing the thing to the car and making it that I can never change the bulb again - anyone else have this problem or idea what the hell is going on?

there's no broken pieces (compared it to the two original ones that I removed) and if you're familiar, there is a metal spring-hinge on one end and a plastic hook-like feature on the other end and it should just pop back in with a bit of tension. however, something has gone awry and there's no tension (unless I put the tape on both ends to increase the bulk).

between the damn vibration and now things just popping off I'm really starting to feel like maybe i got duped into buying that new Saturn roadster disguised as a Boxster!

It sounds like the metal spring clip isn't actually snapping into place on the bumper cover. After I yanked out the sidemarker the first time, I actually looked in the owner's manual and saw the proper procedure for doing it, where you stick a screwdriver through a hole in the wheel well and pop the spring clip off the bumper cover.

If you just yanked it out and the spring clip bent back, there's a small possibility that you tore the part of the bumper that the spring clip is supposed to seat against. I hope that's not what happened in your case!

FIrst suggestion would be to make sure you're pushing the sidemarker all the way in so that the clip engages. If you're able to easily pull the whole unit back off, it's not working.

eslai - i actually detached the original sidemarkers via the technique in the owner's manual. I can't find a missing or broken piece anywhere on the sidemarker or the car. i can get the spring to snap in place, but what's funny is that the end closest towards the headlight just slips out. again, no broken or missing pieces though. so, by adding tape to the spring and the little piece on the end towards the headlight increases bulk and gets it to fit snug for a while. guess i have the dealer look at it when i go in to have the vibration checked out. in addition - i have a new mystery - will create a thread for this one, which is baffling!

rail - i agree - what the hell is saturn doing???
