Picture of your Boxster game.

Did this on another forum… It was fun.

Rules
A person makes a request of your Boxster by some place, with some accessory inside the car, and etc. Whoever posts the requested picture has to request a different picture, and so on…

It should be your own car, a friend's car, family member's car. No googled images ( that's cheating and the point of this is to get out and photograph your car!)

The person who requests a picture, cannot post a picture to his own request.

Let’s see for how long we can keep this going. (Admin, if this is stupid or already done… just delete. No hard feelings)

First car request: Your Boxster in the rain or wet

particlewave 06-28-2015 09:37 AM

There are several already.

Well Scheiße!

Giller 06-28-2015 03:49 PM

Doesn't mean we can't start up a 2015 version....

Would have tossed a picture in, but I try not to let my Box out in the rain (which it so happened to be doing all day today).

thstone 06-28-2015 04:22 PM

I'm in. Except that it hasn't rained in SoCal for like a decade and its the middle of summer so a pic in the rain ain't gonna happen here. Hope someone else can get this going...

Are you serious about not driving your car in the rain? I am curious why.

particlewave 06-28-2015 05:15 PM

Boy, I'm just a buzzkill, aren't I?

How about ice? It's technically water.
I tried to wash my car in 20 degree weather.
I have a bunch of "wet" photos somewhere, but can't find them!

Crummy picture...feel free to disqualify. :)
If not, next up is a 986 and a locomotive.

I believe he asked for rain....(well, he said or wet, but I asked the next question) (Doh!! you asked the question too! Sorry..)

It rained so hard I didn't dare open the door to move it, then it hailed. :(It was light though.

I like seeing a wheel off the ground on track day....that's like totally cool, man.

leftfield6 06-29-2015 04:09 AM

Come on, guys, lets get this rolling. I participate in one of these on my motorcycle forum and it can be fun. I think someone a few posts up threw out there:

Your Boxster and a Locomotive

Some one go do it. Then that person, in the same post, makes the next request. Make it fun, interesting, and a little challenging.

I'm at work now, or I would go out and tag this one right away.

The previous threads never seemed to take off on here, lets see if we can do better this time. I propose that we ditch the "keeping score" part of it, and just do it for fun. The motorcycle one I participate in has over 9000 posts and averages about one tag a day, and they have no point system. It's just done as mindless entertainment.

So, here were the rules form last time we tried this:

Quote:

THE RULES - PLEASE READ
1) No photoshopping, so obviously this also means no requests that would require photoshopping. We're going for real pictures.

2) Please only post pictures of YOUR Boxster, meaning you will actually have to go out and take a picture to post in this thread. Yes, you have to do a little work for your points...or have a buddy who's great with a camera and enjoys running around with you to play this game. You must take the picture for posting in this thread. No previously taken pictures will be accepted.

3) No duplicate requests - let's keep it fresh, I’m sure we can all think of something different.

4) If you are the poster who meets the picture challenge, please put your next request in a BOLD font under your picture so it's easy to find.

5) If the challenge isn't met within 48 hours of posting, the person who put the challenge up then has 24 hours to complete the challenge themselves. If they cannot complete their own challenge, they are docked one point and then must pick a new challenge. Choose wisely and be prepared to meet your own challenge if needed.

6) No challenge is to be made that involves any of the following:

* illegal activities (this includes, but is not limited to: guns, drugs, street racing, thievery, etc).
* currency (the participants of this game will not be limited to those with immediate access to large amounts of funds)
* Destruction of one's own property, the property of others, or any piece of public property

The list could go on and on, so let’s use good judgement and do things in good taste. Again, this is supposed to be fun while being challenging.

7) Do not specify model/type/year/color requirements for member vehicles(i.e. base Boxster, Boxster S, 986/987, MY99, etc.). We want anyone and everyone on the forum to be able to participate in this game. The type of Boxster you own does not matter, just that it IS a Boxster meeting the challenge requirements. However, specifying something else (like taking a picture next to a brick building, a red sedan, a yellow lawnmower, a pine tree, an empty boat launch, etc.) while not getting too specific, is allowed. Simply say "A Boxster...(followed by the challenge specifics)".

8) Once a challenge has been satisfied, the user who met the challenge should post the picture in the Boxster Picture Game Thread for confirmation.

9) Please do not quote someone's post with the picture in it so we don't see the same pictures multiple times. Instead, refer to the post # so that we can keep things organized and uncluttered.

10) If you wish to dispute someone's meeting of a challenge, refer to their post # and give a reason for disputing their accomplishing the requirements by the rules. Keep it concise and don't start an internet fistfight about it. PM me if necessar, but do make sure to put a post in the thread so that there is record of the dispute.
I think these are good, except for the part in #5 about losing points. I do agree that if you post a challenge, and no one gets it within a certain time limit that an new challenge needs to be posted. How about this: If over 48 hours go by and no gets the challenge photo, the person who posted the unsuccessful challenge has 24 hours to post a new challenge or forfeit. At forfeit, the first challenge posted, by anyone, becomes the new challenge.

We okay with this?

healthservices 06-29-2015 10:12 AM

I'm good with it it keeps the thread from getting stale. Although i dunno if everyone is good with 48 hours as a good time frame. I believe when I first started on this site there was a similar thread with several pages that lasted over a couple years. Of course too many rules and the thread will die instantly.

#1 problem?
Activity on the forum has been down and of the regulars, a large percent don't drive their cars every day.

Start over with rules in OP?

Does this count car in the rain with a tire up

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...psdmmfwlyj.jpg

leftfield6 07-08-2015 06:49 AM

So looks like the thread died again.

Okay, let s try once more. Remember you have to take the picture for the purpose of meeting the challenge. It can't be from your library of pics. So therefore all challenges should be something that at least a few people will be able to seek out and accomplish within 24-48 hours

Needs to be somewhat geographically neutral. As in "picture of a Boxster with a statue" as opposed to "picture of your Boxster with the statue of Atlas in downtown Chicago. "

So, I'm taking the liberty of starting us over. Here is our challenge: picture of your car with a police car.

Timco 07-08-2015 08:21 AM

Down the street from my shop.

Im sorry, but the other threads died for a reason, too.
Taking a car out for the sole purpose of taking a specific picture is unrealistic for adults with jobs who also don't drive their 986's daily.
This is coming from a picture junkie. ;)
http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/51809-how-many-pics-your-986-do-you-have.html

BTW, there's a police car in a lot of my pictures :D

This is old and these are not my headlights, just a set I built for someone.

Meh. I don't agree. Here is a thread on a motorcycle forum I belong to. This particular thread is just for north Georgia forum members, and it is very active, with sometimes multiple tags/challenges being accepted and accomplished in a single day. It's also a harder challenge because the challenges there are not as simple as what we are trying to do here.

And these are people with jobs. Believe me, you need a job to support a motorcycle addiction. Maybe even more so that a Porsche addition.

Oh well. I'll play along if it lives, and I'll let it go if it dies. Could be fun, but maybe we don't have the membership numbers on this site to support it.

Timco 07-08-2015 12:23 PM

I have one hell of a demanding job. It's just me. Big jobs. Four installs going on right now, consulting on a huge job, and we have several rentals.

I find time or find a way to do what's fun to me. Sometimes.

Totally different target audience and mindset. And as to cost of ownership? Really? I could get a brand new Harley Road King for around $25,000 to start. Can't even get into the Porsche dealership for that, let alone buy a Brand new Boxster.

Many riders have multiple bikes. I have had as many as 6 at one time. Add in gear and maintenance and motorcycling is a very expensive hobby. At this moment I have about the same money invested in my 16 year old Porsche as in my 2 current motorcycles, both of which are older than the Boxster. Every one of which (bikes and Boxster) were purchased used.

And I have never once in my life been in a Porsche dealership.

Never said it wasn't expensive, but you said it was MORE than Porsche ownership. Apples to apples - if you are talking about owning 6 bikes, then you need to compare that to someone with 6 Porsches. Owning 1 Porsche will always cost you more than owning 1 bike.

Now I'm not saying that's a good thing....

And why haven't you been in a Porsche dealership? It's like Disney Land!

Too late. If anyone want's to nominate a picture of your Boxster in the garage having not been driven for several weeks, I might have a crack at that :-)

Can't imagine there is a single thing there I would be willing to spend dealership prices on. I buy my parts online, and get OEM parts for much less than dealership prices. And I do 95% of my own wrenching. For the 5% I cant do, I go to an independent shop.

To be totally honest, the little shop in the parts department has by far the best hats and shirts and is cheaper than I've found. Plus, my wife can't live without her $100 Porsche umbrella. It's actually a good investment. Lots of tempting stuff in our dealership's parts store. Worth browsing.

I have been to the Ocala FL Porsche dealership 3 times. First time it was at its old location. Was driving my son down to Sanford to pick up a Miata and happened to pass by it so we pulled in. 2nd time was on the way back from Orlando to go to the space center. My plan was to go there first and then find some breakfast. Turns out they had some really good coffee and a tray of pastries - the good kind! I made my breakfast there and chatted with the parts guy who was into HPDE. 3rd time on the way back from Sebring and we just missed it being open by about 15 minutes, but we hung in the parking lot and ogled cars. It was a lot of fun each time.

Too funny! I've started this and participated in this same thread in several other forums. What I've seen is pretty interesting. In the Mercedes crowd, it was very active but forum members would routinely post googled images causing flame wars, name calling and heavy moderation, especially with the W201 crowd, not as much with the W171 members. Eventually the thread has to get closed for a while to let the kids settle down. The VAG community is different, total discipline with following rules and pretty interesting challenges. The Audi A3 thread is years old and a few hundred pages.
New to this community this is kind of what I expected to happen, since there wasn't an active thread. The Porsche community seems to have a pictures? Who cares, let's just drive it while it's nice out attitude...

It's almost kind of indicative of what the stereotypical driver is like in each group: MB, look at mine, it's got more kit than yours, only it's not mine but it's looks just like mine... VAG: hey, I just took 1000 pictures of my car on bags with a new lip of corse I have pictures to show! Porsche: who has time for silly picture games when there weekend track days??? I'll just drive it thanks.

Anyway, yes it's DEad, lol.
