Tried removing it. Sounded like a 16 yr old with a shop vac trying to sound like a hot rod.

Are you sure you removed the correct part? Based on your description, you absolutely did not.

Mine just sounded better
I like when it is idling I can give the gas pedal a quick tap with my foot and hear the immediate intake or gasp of air...then the better sound.

It's as if the engine is taking a quick deep breath. Have to say that I like to do that too!
