11.2 for H2; 25.3 for Box; 26.8 for 08 Scion xb (33 mpg advertise)

For an 05 987: Pre 10% ethanol in all central florida fuel - 23 to 24 mpg mixed highway / city driving. 29.5 mpg on an Atlanta to Orlando trip, top up, 75 mph tp 80 mph.

Now with the 10% ethanol fuel - 20 to 21 mpg mixed highway / city driving. I have not done a road trip, but right after fill up, on a 10 mile highway stint at 75 mph the OBC noted 27 mpg.

It may be a coincidence, but I think the ethanol blend has robbed some fuel efficiency.

I reset my MPG once on the freeway, and it showed 46MPG for a few minutes until I got off the freeway. It made me feel like I was in my sisters Mini that consistently gets 36 MPG.

Ethanol has a lower energy density than gasoline, hence the lower mileage.

I generally get 19-20 mpg from my '03 2.7L w/Tip in mixed city/fwy driving. However, given gas prices, I tried soft-pedaling it on the last tank, keeping it to 75 mph on the fwy (instead of 90 mph), and using my cruise control. All that brought me up to 22 mpg - not sure it's worth it.

My 19-year-old son and I drove from Virginia to Florida last week. The Boxster was stuffed, both trunks were completely full. I was pleased to get 28 mpg on the highway with the top down on our base 2000 car. We held the speed at a pretty constant 76mph. I cannt seem to force myself to drive through a tank of gas with the top up just to check the top-up mileage.

Last time I filled up I reset my trip meter and My low-fuel light came on this weekend, I grabbed a gas can and decided to re-inact a seinfeld episode and drive until I ran out. I made it 330 miles...weeeeelll more than expected. I calculated I got 19.4 mpg...not good compared to you guys but keep in mind I heal toe downshift everytime, as well as floor it up to the speed limit everytime. My gas gauge needle had stopped moving 30 miles before I ran out! :D

I get about 22 in the twisties, 25 driving to work, and 29 driving to Parades with the car fully loaded and the A/C on.

i get about 400 miles to each tank- if i dont feel the need for speed that is

16.5 mpg...It's my wife's car and is driven 90% city, can you tell she has a lead foot and likes to drive fast?!

Update it is now 16.7 woohoo!!!!

2000 S 3.2L w/31K miles; 30K service pending

I drive it ultra-conservatively with a round trip daily of 20 miles and usually get 16-17 MPG... this equates getting 230-250 miles on tank of gas.

On straight highway driving, I get 27-28 MPG and get close to 350 miles on a tank of gas.

I always reset the trip computer at each fill up and will always calculate MPGs by miles driven/gallons with calculator to compare the computer. The computer always reads ~1 MPG higher. The values posted above are the lower, hand calculated MPGs.

I'm hoping for some improvement once I complete the 30K service.

i cant remember where i red this.. some magazine i think, but the article was a write up on efficient engines. they praised porsche for making the most efficient engine that runs on premium gas. they tested the new 911 that is, whose engine is much different than many of our older boxsters, but still porsche product :)

I have a 2008 with 1,800 miles on it. If the car's computer is right, I am averaging 15.8 mpg. I do mostly city driving with an occasional trip on the highway. Last tank of gas I got I went about 250 miles on, but I didn't wait until it was really close to empty to refill.

I average a little over 350 miles per tank or a little over 28mpg. 2.5liter engine.

I used to get 22 - 23 mpg driving somewhat conservatively, but now I almost always keep the rpm's over 4000 and i'm between 19 and 20 mpg(but its a lot more fun).

MY 2001 base (2.7l).

I got 29.4mpg on a trip to Yosemite and back. Lots of twisties, reasonable speed most times, top down 90% of the time.

Then, took a trip to Lake Tahoe and back. 29.8mpg. Lots of fast sweeping curves, high speed and all, top up 20% of the time (high speed + wind causing windscreen flutter).

Low traffic during both the trips (drove mostly on weekdays).

Alright now I'm stumped :confused:

It looks like most of you are getting around 27 - 29 mpg on the highway.

How are you calculating this ? Are you using the OBC, or dividing gallons purchased into miles driven ?

Like I said, I was really suprised to only get 22 - 24 mpg on my trip.

My daily commute is 20 miles on local roads and for the last two years I consistently see 21 mpg on every fill up.

Was it due to my speed on this trip ( 80 - 85 mph ) ?

Top was up and AC on - did this make a difference ?

Was it the added weight ( two people plus front and back trunk packed ) ?

Was it the elevation changes ( from Illinois to Virginia ) ?

Any insite or suggestions would be appreciated..

I really miss the days where gas was ONLY $2.77 a gallon for premium.

I get mid 20s all over the place, but my driving is probably 70% highway.

I just filled up at $4.11 per gallon, and that was the cheapest around me here in Mercer County, NJ.

This thread is great for tracking our nation's gas prices. Perfectlap's post quoted above was made in April of 2006.

One thing that has to be taken into consideration I think when talking about MPG is that while someone's MPG might be lower because they do mostly city driving that that person is probably driving a shorter distance, so therefore using less gas. So while I may be only getting 15.7 MPG, I'm only probably driving 5 miles to get downtown as opposed to the guy who has to get on the highway for an hour. Just something to think about.

I was getting 22-24 MPG on the highway, then I cleaned my MAP sensor and it immediately jumped to 27-29.... I was shocked it had that much of an effect.

Nick, the trips that I took were with 2 people (decent sized :) ). In the Yosemite trip, both trunks were full. In the Tahoe trip, only the front trunk was full.

We definitely didn't average 80+ mph the entire trip, but were pretty fast. (The clear plastic windscreen between the hoops "fluttered" on both the trips). Also, both drives involved driving through elevation (over 8000 feet). Fast sweeping curves, more so in Tahoe than in Yosemite. The latter had more of the slow sharp twisties. Also had the A/C on for the time when the top was up, didn't notice any drop in the mpg. Used the OBC's trip computer to determine the posted mileage, but also did a back-of-the-napkin sanity check.

One thing to bear in mind -- I was used to getting 24-26mpg in my mostly highway daily driving. Then, after an oil change, it dropped to 23 and below. Turned out, after the oil change, I'd gotten gas at a Shell station near the dealership, and the mileage climbed back up after I got a fillup from my regular gas station.
