Not sure about your ticking noise. I would not use that oil in your engine. This is what Jake Raby uses in all his engines.
Driven Racing Oil 02407, Driven Synthetic European Sports Car Oil | Driven Racing Oil
I've been running Mobil 1 0W-40 in my car as that's what Porsche recommends, but I may switch over to what Jake Raby uses. My car has 117k miles on it.

Did you ask them why they put Valvoline 15w40 in it? Are they brain damaged?
Yes, could be the oil, but it could also be any number of things. I'd start by putting the correct oil in.

15w40 is too thick. Valvoline what? They make a number of different oils. Stick with a high quality synthetic oil. DT40 is a good example of a highly recommended oil for the M96. I'd get the questionable oil out of your car and find someone that knows something about your car to do work on it.

0-40 Shell Rotella T6. 0-40 Mobile 1 - or what Jake is using.
Check out Bob the Oil Guy forum for all the oil info you will ever need, want or could digest in a lifetime.

Something isn't right. Valvoline does not show 15W-40 grade oil in the SynPower oil.

Definitely get that oil out of there. Motul 8100 5-40 or Joe gibbs Driven 5-40 are probably the best. At the very least Mobil 1 0-40 or Castrol syntech 0-40. Both of the latter are available at your local Walmart in 5 liter jugs. Get two. Just make sure they are the European formula with the A40 Porsche rating. Anything is better than what you have in there now.

I think you want the 10-40 if you're going with the Castrol. Based on used oil analysis by a shop-owning member. I'd use it but we only have the 5-40 available in Canada (go figure), so I use that.
There are as many opinions on oil as there are on replacement IMS bearings.

Yeah i hear you on the opinions. I used to use 5-40 castrol but I can't find it anymore, so I've been using 0-40. It has the Porsche A40 certification so I think i'm alright.

I'll say that any name brand oil will work fine as long as its changed on a regular basis.
The ticking noise is likely a stuck hydraulic lifter but there are several other reasons for ticks so you'll have to do some checking to verify the cause.

Put in Royal Purple HPS 10w-40
Wanted the high zinc level.
But not certified by porsche.
Recommend for track cars
Out of warranty.
