Top does not work, where to start?

One of the things I need to get sorted before I even think of putting on a new top! The top will not go down, or up on its own. Where do I start? What can I test? What are the obvious offenders? Any help please!

Just had this the other day! Set the parking brake. Does the light come on, on the dash?

Most common problems are with the e-brake switch in the console and the top micro switch under the latch hook at the top of the windshield. Google away, friend it's all here somewhere.

More info

Hello,
Sometimes I read these postings too fast and miss some details, but in your case, there just weren't enough details. For example, you only state the top does not go up or down. So, just what is happening when you put on the parking brake, pop the latch at the rear view mirror and push the button on the dash? Is the convertible top light illuminated on the dash? Do the windows drop down, does the top's motor run when you push and hold the button? If the motor is running, does it make a loud clicking noise? Does the convertible top boot move, but not the top? We need more info. Good luck, Joe

Joe, you are absolutely right, I don't really give much info. With parking brake one, pop the latch, windows go down, hit button, boot goes up, but I have to drop top manually.

I'm suddenly having the same problem. I've checked the fuse, and the PARK light works when I apply the handbrake. If the windows are up, when I open the latch the windows go down a little.

I think this all means that my parking brake switch is OK (because the light works), and the switch near the latch is working (because the windows go down).

I'm not sure how to manually drop the top to test if it will go up once down.

Looking at the schematic there seem like there are more switches back near the mechanism. Maybe one of those is broken, or the control module?
