Porsche Key

I bought a key replacement online (EBAY) and my Porsche dealership said that they can't program it without the barcode tag that I mistakenly threw away. Does that sound right or are they pulling my leg?

On this same vein, I have 1 key that works fine and another that will start the car (so the little "pill" is intact) but the door lock part seems not to be programmed. I never had the bar code tag. I will call Porsche on this but it's night-time now and I was wondering if anyone had done this?
