Gemballa door airbags

I want to reupholster my door panels using black alcantara with stitching. I had the dash done in alcantara and it nicely transformed my car.

Door panels seem to be a problem. They are plastic welded together so you cant take them apart. The airbag cover on the door is also plastic welded on the back so you can't remove it to rewrap it. Curious what they do when they blow out? New door panel?

Gemballa has wrapped some side airbags in alcantara. I want to also. Any ideals or links guys on how to take these apart? I only found a link on painting the door airbag. Thanks ahead of time.

I'll let you know in about two weeks. Getting my dash and doors covered in Alcantara by a professional (let's hope!) shop.

Hi,

you'll have to seperate the parts of the door panels by drilling the plastic welds. After wrapping each part with leather, or alcantara, or fabric, the panels have to be plastic welded, or glued again.

Therefore you use a special plastic welding tool and special plastic paste. Or a special plastic glue.

For example search for Würth REPLASTeasy, or plastic repair sets.

Professional plastic welding tools are also often used to repair ABS - for example ABS frascias.
