So the guy doesn't have a key, but he is somehow able to light up the instrument panel and show the mileage?

My instrument panel lights up as soon as the drivers door is opened...... but I have a ROW model so it may be different for US cars.

I saw this ad a couple of days ago and was definitely curious about it.
It's a grab bag for sure since no one appears to know if it runs or not. It looks awfully clean, but I know how deceptive pictures can be. The interior seems to have very little wear. I'd be sorely tempted!

You thinking about giving it a shot?

Hmm....$5500 for a 2001 S, could be the deal of the year. Supposedly a repo so you you have to assume that it was being driven. At the worst it is not a bad price even for a roller.

Dealer auction + dodgy seller = potential legal issues.Bin there done that. Make sure you get ALL the documents. The guy's d.license info, a signed "statement of facts" future address.
It could be stolen/liens etc.
Go to an agent for the local DMV to investigate the history. If it is a suspicious vehicle and you go to DMV ,they will nail YOU right there!
Assume the worst(roller/parts car ) and price accordingly.
It could be legit ....but then again.....

C'mon... it has Litronic headlights and clear side markers. Of course it's a safe bet.

I inquired about this a couple days ago. Contacted seller, asked him if I could bring a locksmith and my mechanic with me. (Locksmith was certain he could get the car to at least turn over, even if no spark.) Mechanic was going to check compression. After a couple emails I never heard back. Be careful.

A less invasive approach would be to show up with a spare set of key-immobilizer-ECU. Swap them over and in 10 mins you'll know if it runs.
