you might be able to go with an aftermarket airbag wheel. raid/atiwe are the big makers of such things. they use hubs too (so that their steering wheels can be used by a variety of auto manufacturers) but have a very specific bolt pattern to join hub and wheel. their wheels/hubs are a different depth than oem and *I think* sit a little closer than oem. I think you can also get a spacer (check fvd). big $$$ however ...
