Heater core flush

I've searched and can't find an answer to my question.

Can you flush the heater core while it is still in the car? Basically will it drain or do I need to get some extension hoses?

My heat isn't really hot but it is warm. I know it could be other stuff but I want to attempt this first based on previous experience.

I'm a little surprised no one has ever flushed a heater core after reading all the problems with these systems.
How about is there a place to drain water around the battery or will it get into the car or front trunk?

That is probably because most of heat issues with these cars involves the air mixing flaps and controls, not the heater core.
