How much are my wheels worth..?
Hi all, my Boxster has a set of original GT3 18" staggered alloys that were on the car when I bought her 11 months ago and I'm thinking of changing them for another set, how much do you reckon they're worth bearing in mind they'll probably need a refurb as not 100%.

Skoosh - I've been looking for Sport Design wheels lately for several of my projects.
The Sport Design wheel came in various widths/offsets for different models. For the Boxster (and probably what you have on your car) they were front 7.5/50/18, rear 9/52/18.
For the 996 models they used the same 7.5 front with a 10/65/18 rear. The GT3 used an 8" wheel in the front and a 10" wheel in the rear. You probably don't have wheels off a GT3 as the rear offset (65 mm) is way deep for a Boxster.
A good, used set sells for anywhere from $1000 -$1500 for a set of 4. 8" wheels are pretty tough to find. 7.5", 9" and 10" are fairly easy.
You can tell what you have on your car by looking at the stamped numbers on either side of the valve stem. Width (7.5, 8, 9, 10) is stamped on one side. Offset (50, 52, 65) is stamped on the other.
Rick

Those can be and are easily reproduced.
Weight would be the first thing I would check to see if they are factory. Back when the Italian Carrera five spoke replicas were selling cheap ($700) I ordered my factory originals and the first thing I did when they came in was to weigh them (held wheel over my head and stood on scale). They were ~20lbs. Replicas if memory serves were about six pounds heavier. If these are 18" GT3 wheels in the narrow profile (only way they will fit on a Boxster) then they should be about ~20lbs as well.

When I refinished mine I forgot to weigh them! Really pis---d me off but they sure felt heavier than 20 lbs. The cast center section is HEAVY. I'd say the OP should check the option sticker under the front boot and see if they're listed. The bolts are supposed to be titanium too....

I just happen to have two refinished Sport Design wheels sitting in my spare bedroom. (When you're a bachelor you can get away with such things.) The 9" wheel was 26.4 pounds. 8" wheel 25.4 pounds.
Both wheels are stamped BBS w/ Porsche part numbers.

Based on your choice in seats I can see clearly that you are a man of superb taste.
But six pounds of extra rolling weight is going to take a little oomph out of your red light take offs. Which of course calls for UD pulley, lighter aftermarket exhaust and headers, console delete, Optima, etc.
