A fair amount of 98 and 99 911s have been listed for a few under 20 latly, which is comparable with 03 and 04 boxsters base or S. It'll make the buying process tough for some. Do you want the bigger power and the "worst 911" or a great mid engine roadster with polarizing styling and a "lack of power."
As an aside most affordable 996s I have seen have been cabriolets.

If you see a '98 for under $20K, scoop it up. It was the last year of the 993s.

I must be mistaken, the car was a 996, must've been a 99, I know for a fact the car was a 90s model though.

Jake, the Boxster came in 97, but the 996 didn't show up until 99. A 98 boxster for 20,000 would be like investing in apple for 3 bucks a share.

The worst 911??? Where do you get that from? The 996 is a great car and when it was new it was ground breaking in technology and performance.
Have you ever driven one?
If the 996 is the worst 911, then the 986 is the worst Boxster as well....
Don't buy into the negative hype, if so I guess you like driving the cheap hair dresser Porsche
I think the wood is a factory option, not aftermarket
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. YMMV
I have seen 996 (non-roller) listed for as low as $12k

I love the 996 hence why I put worst in quotations. The car is perceived styling wise as the ugly duckling, but this allows great performance to be bought for a great possibly unmatched price, I can't think of many cars with comparable performance and prestige to the 911 available under 20k.
I have never seen any for anything like 12k, it'd be hard for me not to upgrade to a 911 if one comes by for that price.

I think Tom paid that or less for his 996 and it's a very nice car. They are out there. There's a 996 Cabriolet in Wichita Ks for $14 that looks like a nice ride.
I'm seeing Boxsters in the $4-6k range...

Agreed. The early 996 models get no respect, just like the 914 and 924 when they were first introduced.
A clean '99-'01 model with an IMSB upgrade can be a fine example of a 911.

Interesting observation. But, to answer you question, no; I think you are among the newer (and more restrained) members (posters). Most others have adapted to Jake and either find humor, reminisce about their own lost youth, or ignore it/him/me. Personally, I'm still wondering about his thread on the Boxster being the best track car. Can't think of a thread where he ever said he's been on the track or an autocross from which to develop an opinion, yet opinions are free and, from what I've learned, you can't teach a new dog anything - I've tried. Jake is quite young and I think they now learn l33t in kindergarden instead of cursive in elementary.

I guess you're right. You have no opinion(s) about what would make a "good" track car -- see I even used quotes like you did.

And since I have some time as I finish my coffee, a little constructive criticism:
"Did you ever read the thread about it being a track car,..."
Ok -- this sounds like a question, so you want to use a "?" instead of a ",". Also, "even" would be a better choice than "ever" -- I think what you are going for is a little bit of angst and/or frustration rather than "ever" which implies something else.
"..., I simple posted a link for others to read,... " This is an independent clause and can stand by itself. However, I would like to state that this is not true as you also posted opinions in the thread.
"... absolutely never..." I, and many others, know what "never" means. I don't think you need to qualify never with "absolutely", but to each their own.

You call it an obsession, I call it a hobby. Would you rather I spend time wondering why you've chosen to put "potato" in your name/avatar? I mean you put it there for a reason, right? Are you trying to be funny? What is it about the potato that perks your interest? Does it have something to do with Dan Quayle and tomato?
Oh, before I forget, how was that time you spent hanging with Danger in the nether? Remember? You said something about an absence with your 2000th post - how did that work out for you? What was it like? Was it potato-rific? Inquiring minds want to know!

Interesting diagnosis. A little bit of projection, wouldn't you say? Why so protective? Jake has always held up to my (and others) comments, right? Why do you feel the need to protect him? Also what's with the pedophile charges? Really? You know me so well? You know my age? I have to say that's a bit harsh, but I guess we all know where your head is at, don't we?
If you do the research, I also respond to PL's posts with the same vigor. Difference, of course, is our respective opinions on a great many things differ, and PL knows how to use the English language. In fact, I'm not sure anyone noticed, but a historical event occurred recently - PL said he liked the fried egg lights - which to my recollection is the first time this occured on the 986 forum. I haven't quite figured out a proper way to recognize this historic event. Has anyone else?
Edit: oh, never mind Toni, I did a bit of research. Nothing will be gained from our continued conversations - you are far too worldly for the likes of me. Surprised you condescended to posting to me. Also, surprised that you request the proper use of English.... Except, I guess, when it comes to Jake where you obviously have a soft spot. Kinda creepy, if you ask me. I guess I prefer to treat each equally without the favoritism.

I am all too familiar with JFP, don't like him and give respect to those deserving of it. That guy is nothing more than a Durametric peddler.
"The guy that knows more about these cars than the rest of us put together?" Ha! What a joke. Sure, that applies if what you're asking about has to do with a diagnosis tool.
Would you like some lube to make the job easier? How do you type with yours in one hand and his in the other?
"An long-time member"? Who's the moron? Use proper English, please.

"Pedophile" is the first insult that dread wearing, hippie FSA, leftist nut jobs like to yell out. It fits their sick profile of how everyone who doesn't just see it their way lives. I had a lady cut me off in a parking lot, give me the finger as I honked, then yell "pedophile!!!" as we sat at the next light. It excites them to accuse others of something so vile and it's all they have to say. Disgusting behavior. Obviously no facts, just a word meant to insult with obviously no supporting evidence. Those folks should be banned for saying something so disgusting. Heck, maybe the psyco that attacked me over my [small animal who's name must not be spoken] comment to the new guy will show up and throw out all those same accusations again....I've seen that joke twice now with new member posts and no precious feelings got hurt over those comments. (I thought it was funny, sorry Wayne)
If Jake can't take the heat over his poor spelling and grammar, he can not log in or go elsewhere, but he seems to be doing fine with the pokes he gets and typically deserves. He is very young and this is a more mature crowd. He will look back and agree at some point. Anyone not enjoying the site because of another member's spelling or post content needs to learn to get over themselves and be themselves. If JD wants to post, I'll read it. If not, well, bye! Nobody chased him off. Maybe he's a better man for not just ranting about another member's opinions or post content and just keeping to himself if he doesn't like someone here.

I'm unaware of any such contest, but in case there is, I nominate BigJake111 for MVP of the last 2 years!
In refreshing contrast to the usual drop in for a couple weeks to ask the same old troubleshoot my salvage/auction/beater Boxster I just found to flip for profit. Too lazy to search for the info that's been repeated adnauseum for years.
BigJake has a unprecedented number of unique but relevant threads & posts. I am thankful for the variety Big Jake contributes to this forum. I find myself logging on less & posting even less due to the endless posts on topics that have been covered multiple times with zero new info in the last 5 years. Big Jake actually has bought & sold a 986 in 2014, giving him actual experience in this threads topic. A few "contributers" decided to derail the thread by highlighting small errors in BigJake's post. Maybe you would be happier on 6-speedonline.com where you will have more chances to "contribute".
