I just saw it and thought I would fwd it along...

I know a lot of our members have installed these UDPs. Does anyone have any significant improvement they can share or for that matter anyone have any negatives to add.
If this one does not include a belt and new bolt it may not be a terrific deal. I think Pedro has a package that includes everything. I am just not sure what amount of improvement to expect.

I was thinking the same thing. I got mine from somewhere else and had to order the bolt separately. I like the Pedro one but it doesn't have any holes so I wonder how you hold the crankshaft in position to torque it. That was one of the things I liked about the RSS one is that it comes with a tool to hold it. I am going to do mine over the Thanksgiving break if it ever stops raining and if it isn't too cold...

I have Pedro's UDP. Small increase in power (less than 5hp) that you'll quickly get used to. No negative impacts to speak of. Is it worth it? I'd say yes.HP gains on these cars is hard to come by especially on the cheap.

I got the Mantis one years ago...black anodized. At the time, I was able to notice the difference in the engine, now I have nothing to compare. I have not noted any significant detriments.....maybe some PS pump squeal on full lock in a Parking garage.

IIRC the belt is still a standard Porsche (Continental) part (jeez I should change that thing). Call or write them and let us know what they say.

would have grabbed that but they only had the 1,5 back then.....they are nice pieces with the windage tray feature

So you can use the old belt but not the original bolt????

No, the belt will be a different length and you'll want to make a note of the correct size because you'll no longer be able to just order a belt for a boxster.

I never noticed that Pedro's pulley doesn't have a hole in it. Show stopper for me, since being able to lock the engine at TDC is more than just kind of handy.

there's a lot of torque on the bolt, and folks in the know say that the bolt is only good for one application of said torque. regarding belts, here's a good resource:

If it's a 4" diameter pulley, which most of them are, you won't be able to lock the pulley&crank @ TDC.

My original crank bolt is working just fine. It's a 14mm bolt how much is it going to stretch ?

When I installed mine I saw a 1-2mpg improvement.

How can a smaller pulley increase HP in a internal combustion air pump

like a bike - easier to pedal when on the smaller gear. a smaller drive pulley reduces parasitic load on the engine (does't work as hard to turn water pump, power steering pump, air conditioning compressor and alternator, but the consequence is that they do not turn as fast as a result).

I have Pedro's kit. When it was time for a new belt, I just went to the auto part store and matched it up. 20 bucks, no problem. As for the torqueing, I wedged a piece of wood in there and tightened it up. Easy Peasy.

the pulley is by far the best bang for the buck mod. you can do. i put the RSS one on 3 years ago , no problems at all .

I was just reading the instructions for Pedro's/TuneRSMotorsports one, and it says to torque the bolt and do the final tightening to put the car in the highest gear and set the parking brake. So I guess that could work. Some Miata folks do that too. When we did our Miata WP/Timing belt we bought the crank pulley hold tool from Flying Miata. When I did my UDP (with the RSS) I used their tool and a block of wood from a 2x4 and wedged it against the top of the front engine compartment access.

Why wouldn't Porsche design it in
 

If it does have the advantages that people indicate, why wouldn't Porsche have used this diameter in their design to begin with. It wouldn't cost them anything at that point and there would have been free benefits.
Did this escape them in their design?
They (Porsche engineers) must have selected that diameter pulley for some reason if they didn't miss this one
