Mine's rattles at startup for a second 1st start of the day or after car sits for several hours. Read somewhere that the flat six tends to do this after so many miles. My car has 137k with IMS done

Most typically the chain tensioners
They need to pump up a bit
Mine does the same when it sits for days on that first start

The standard M96 start up chain rattle.
I'll change the IMS chain tensioner at oil change time in the fall just in case it's gotten lazy in the last 17 years.

Mine does it after sitting for a week or so on first startup. 2001S with 99K miles. I changed all three chain tensioners with new ones over the winter and it did not help one bit.

I seem to remember someone saying you need the updated oil pressure relief valve, the little piston and spring to fix the rattle start up. Somehow the old ones start leaking after a while and the oil bleeds out and the tensioners rattle.

Rattles for a second at startup but "gores" away quickly
Same as my KTM or the primary chain on my Norton. Just takes a second for the guides to pump up.
