How many motorcycle riders on here?
This question came to my mind this morning, figured I'd ask how many people are on here also ride a motorcycle along with enjoying their Boxsters?
If you do, shout out and pics would be great. I have owned several over the last 10 years but right now, I ride a 2006 Yamaha R1 (Red).http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1413999589.jpg |
25 to 30 years back I had a crotch rocket (1987 GSXR750) when they were first coming into vogue, now it's mainly dirt.

I Also went from crotch rockets to dirt/dual purpose

That would be a "hell yes".
Some TOUGH choices on a nice day........http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1414001238.jpg |
I race harescrambles and enduros. Ice racing in the winter. I dabbled in sportbikes for a while but gave it up.
|
2006 Triumph Daytona 675 here. She's got 33k on her so by sport bike standards not bad.

I commute by bike about 80 miles per day, 365 in the PNW. Recently had as many as 6 bikes but paired the number down so I could buy my Boxster.
The last bike standing is my '08 Triumph Tiger 1050, currently at 65k miles. http://i1045.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5f6965fc.jpg http://i1045.photobucket.com/albums/...ps524de76a.jpg Above picture taken a few weeks ago in eastern Oregon, a 935 mile road trip with my oldest son. |
rode and raced rockets..
crashed a few miss this the most: http://photos-d.ak.instagram.com/hph...40733051_n.jpg But now I got this: http://distilleryimage5.ak.instagram...0a1faffb_7.jpg 79 cb750 that i built into a cafe cruiser type deal.. (yeah seat not covered in that photo..._) |
I've got a soft spot for my black KTM's and a certain silver Porsche
2007 450 EXC. The poor thing has been upside down, flipped backwards and completely submerged underwater...not all on the same day though:D http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1393290228.jpg 2006 950 Adventure. Great all-around bike. Lotsa fun if you enjoy breaking the rear end loose at 100 mph on dirt roads. Not for the faint of heart. http://unclebrad.smugmug.com/Other/9...SCF2033-XL.jpg ...and then there's the "mule". It's a tank of a bike. Doesn't do anything well but does everything adequately. http://unclebrad.smugmug.com/Other/P...SCF1938-XL.jpg |
Two wheels spirit! Nice to see some of your rides... love them ALL
Here goes a full HRC engine kit packed with a few tricks. That thing throws out little over 202rwhp :/ And before you ask... yes it cost a lot in tires and brake pads. Another of my favourite loisir, superbike racing. Once a months; full 2-days weekend practice... or stress management... call it what you want! Track/circuits only, never been on a road bike (mum never allowed that). I also fly kites with my wife some other times http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/011414014664.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/021414014679.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/031414014689.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/041414014711.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/051414014722.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/061414014734.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/071414014747.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/081414014763.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/091414014773.jpg You asked for pics lol |
I rode on the street from 1969 to 2000. I quit riding after hitting a mattress on the freeway.
Last bike.... http://images.psndealer.com/dealersi...P1800074_1.jpg |

Forgot the pic of the 1999 Boxster
|
Did someone say bikes? I restored a 1965 Triumph T120C and my daily ride is a 1998 Ducati 900CR. I'm currently restoring a 1973 Norton Commando.
|
Still ride my crotch rocket on sunny days, and occasional track days with the guys.

1997 Ducati 900 SS/SP track bike
2007 Honda CBR1000RR 2005 MV Agusta F4-1000s (sold) 2007 Ducati ST3s (sold) 1998 Ducati 900 SS/FE #299 (sold) 1992 Honda CBR900RR (sold) Those are my most recent bikes; over 49 years of riding motorcycles I've owned somewhere around 17 that I can remember. Also owned several Yamaha street bikes, a bunch of KTM MX and enduro bikes (raced MX and enduro on and off for 30 years or so). Quit riding dirt bikes a few years ago because I kept hurting myself! Now I get my thrills doing track days on pavement. Nine8Six, what is a loisir? And I've got news for you: you may not ride on the street, but a CBR1000RR is most certainly a road bike (it's not a dirt bike !) http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1414029879.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1414029460.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1414029518.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1414030310.jpg |
2004 Harley Heritage and 1982 FXRS shovelhead work in progress.

I grew up on motorcycles starting on a minibike with a Briggs & Stratton lawnmower engine. I'm remembering some odd ones now from my teens like: Chaparral 80, Harley Davidson 125 Rapido, and Moto-Guzzi 125 Sport. I had a slew of Japanese 70s & early 80s dirt/enduro 175cc-360cc.
Through the 80s I ended up on a Norton 850 Commando. Yellow, low handlebars, 1/4 faring. Quit riding in the early 90s. I was too dangerous. Now I'm 'mature'. I can ride sitting up and can allow other vehicles to pass me. My family recently let me buy: http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1414033243.jpg No helmet in the photo, but the bike doesn't move without one. |
^ I bet Mr The Cat can't assist in driving this one ;)
This got to be the best car owner's show-my-bike's thread of all time. Love to see some other members' bike!!! Looks like plenty of fun going on here Joe - loisir.... French for leisure. Nice CBR you got there  |
Kawasaki & Yamaha rider here! See garage for pictures. R6 and ZX10 gone now but still tinkering with my 636. Really hoping everything works out for me this winter to hopefully have an R1 in the garage. I miss having a Yamaha in there.

The bummer of being up north, this is the extent of what my riding will entail for the next few months.

1999 KLR 650 & 1979 FXE. Sold my Jeep 1981 CJ5 with a fiberglass body and was going to buy a new Ducati Multistrada when I saw my 2002 S at the same price and choose 4 wheels. I'm not a bit sorry about not buying the Ducati.

1979 FXE. Guess I always liked older vehicles. Current rides 2004 Ford 150 4x4, 2002 Boxster, 1999 KLR 650, and the 79 HD. Newest vehicle is a 2008 MDX that I have at a second home. |
very rare (for states) BMW R850R
|
I used to ride motorcycles and race occasionally. But I was slow and tended to crash on the track, last time out I broke some ribs and had a mild concussion, so I gave up racing. Then, i got hit head on by a hit and run SUV, so I don't ride on the street anymore either.
And riding in Miami FL is boring. Dead flat, no twisties, crazy drivers. If I lived somewhere like the San Fran Bay area I would probably get a bike, but not here in FL. I still have the Ducati 750 F1 that I raced and crashed. Its actually a very rare and valuable bike but since the crash on the road, it has a certificate of destruction title, so I'm just going to sell it as a restoration project or a race bike. Incidentally, the 750 F1 is very competitive in a couple of CCS categories. |

We are transitioning but still have two in the stable. Pictured is my '08 Kawasaki Versys. Not pictured is my wife's '10 BMW F800ST. We recently sold our BMW R1200RT.

Here are my two current rides. I've done the crotch rockets in the past but gave them up before something bad happened. Now I commute with the GS with ABS and cruse on the Victory and really wish it had the same ABS as the BMW. Amazing how easy it is to lock up the brakes with touring tires and not sticker crotch rocket tires.

san rensho whats the deal with the 750 F1 any pic's in current condition? I've always loved those classic bikes. I had the same vintage Cagiva's many years back and wish I had never sold them. You are correct that these are becoming very difficult to locate.

Its all there, original glass and a set of race glass, both of which are rough but repairable.. Needs a few things, a shift lever, an original handlebar brake and a speedo, which has cracked glass but I think a speedo shop could easily repair it. If someone were to restore it, it would be mostly cosmetic. New paint for frame and for the glass. If you know how to paint, I think you could get away with under $1k in materials for the cosmetics. I've seen unrestored, low mileage examples go for $20k on ebay. Mine restored I think would fetch in the $7500-10,000 range, assuming you could get a title for it. I'll take some pictures later and post them. |

Ok guys, lets be correct here. They're sport bikes, not "crotch rockets," just like Boxsters are sports cars, not ass-rockets !

DagDisco, VERY jealous of your GS, I love those bikes. Beautiful day here, changed the oil in 5 different motors and rotated a few sets of tires. Unfortunately the bikes are going into hibernation until the spring, at least the boy does his own maintenance. http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psa79d5e12.jpg |

I guess you missed my attempt at humor by calling sports cars "ass rockets" ;). |
There are different types of sport bikes dependent on the country of origin and common local food as follows:
Rice rocket Kraut rocket (I am partial to these since it my country of origin) Pasta rocket Bangers and mash rocket (my personal ride) Haven't come up with a good one for an American sport bike now that Erik Buell is back at it. |
Way back
I rode Honda MT's and XL's in the late 70's.....never had the talent to ride the CR series...all enduro and off road stuff
|
We don't get may sunny months over here, but there is a lot of us Boxster owners on BoXa.net over here in the UK that have got motorbikes.
Here's the last two I have had. Yamaha R6 http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/p...6/DSCF0246.jpg Ducati 947 http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/p...psf74b0bda.jpg I got this Yellow phase going on at the moment the Ducati was a stable mate for the Boxster and the wife's Mini makes a nice set, http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps0e25e143.jpg Guvs. |
Wow that Yamaha R6 is a beauty

Hitting stuff is bad, but being hit is life threatening.
Hit a dog that was crossing the freeway, clipped his butt and he spun around a few times and then ran off. Darwin let us both live another day so we are both the wiser. I drive very cautiously as the distracted cell phone drivers scare me the most. I never ever drive in anyones blind spot on the bike or cars. I think cars should have built in jammers to prevent cell use in a car when its in turned on. In the US, over 1.3 million accidents a year cause by cell phone use, 330,000 with injuries, 8000+ fatalities a year. Thats a 1 in 300 chance, so if you get out on the roads everyday its a rate of about 1 accident a year, with a 25% chance you will be injured. Defensive driving skills are absolutely required now, especially on a Bike. (Rant completed!) Yami VStar 1100 https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-X...2BCIMG3397.JPG |
Yes, three BMWs and I'm more a bike guy than a car guy and find car club activities positively boring in comparison. Plus, I'm a believer in if it ain't German it's crap and in any event I wouldn't leave town on a bike with chain rear drive. The third bike is an old R80G/S, not pictured here. 215 miles to lunch and back last Friday on the red one. The gray one has toured the Indy MotoGP circuit in 2013 and 2014.
