No ones going around trying to paint the tires. I like a touch of black on a car.

Yeah, well - to each his own I guess lol. To my eye, black bumperettes (like unpainted trim on other mfr's models) make it look like Porsche was trying to save a buck.

Oh, there's no doubt that it was a huge cost saver for Porsche - might be the reason. But, it is a bumperette. The whole point of them is so that if you bump into something, they are your early warning system and will save you actually hitting your bumper. So keeping them black helps hide scuffs and bumps, whereas painted, you will be able to see every time you've backed into something. So there is some practicality to keeping them black.

I have Arctic Silver and I much prefer black bumperettes, it gives it some contrast

Since this has now become a bumperette thread, I thought I would toss in my opinion, backed by visual data.

For your consideration:

Unpainted

Painted

My preference is to see them painted on lighter-colored cars such as my arctic silver, but unpainted looks fine on dark colors. The term that comes to mind when I look at a light-colored car with painted bumperettes is "clean." I would also remind everyone that Porsche started painting bumperettes on the 987.

Also, the Boxster prototype didn't have anything to mar the clean rear bumper:

I didn't consider it before, but the German 986 must not have any bumperettes --- the license plate would never fit.

BoxsterSteve 10-11-2014 08:49 AM

You are correct, sir.
Only North American vehicles have bumperettes, lucky us...
ROW vehicles are much cleaner looking, IMHO.

looks like you have some hazing in the back window or maybe its just fog. Either way this is the go to product when you need clarity, good on headlights, tailights, your helmet visor, etc.

Amazon.com: Vega Plexus Spray Cleaner - 13 oz Can (Standard): Automotive
Order this and used it. Worked great!

On other news not a simple fix the plastic piece is warped at least another $500 with paint.... insurance company and I are battling about who is going to pay.

JayG 10-16-2014 04:56 PM

if t wasn't damaged when your car went in for repair, then it either had to happen at the repair shop or in transit

Sorry about your issues. I was pretty certain it wasn't the easy fix others alluded to..........

A couple of things to say. I have the same green and agree I like the black bumperettes. If I had a silver or yellow car or many other colors I would paint them but it just looks right with the green to leave them black. I'm guessing you also think he should de-amber all the lights to make them clear but again on a green car the amber lights look good it's a classic color comb and it looks like it should be left alone.

Now on to the spoiler. A buddy of mine just had the same issue. Minor rear end hit and the spoiler did not look like it had any issues. After the repairs were completed it became apparent no one noticed the spoiler was not set correct. Ended up costing $1400 to replace the motors and spoiler + paint. So don't underestimate the cost. I think the lift was $1,100 in parts.

keysguy 10-17-2014 01:25 PM

Anyone want to replace the spoiler for $395, price includes all labor and paint? Flo at Progressive thinks that should cover it.
