Ficticious VIN? WP0CB298734660304

This VIN
WP0CB298734660304
doesn't have a valid factory build location. I see it for sale at multiple locations (Statesville, NC and Huntersville NC..could be a dealership thing) and the car fax

CARFAX Vehicle History Report for this 2003 PORSCHE BOXSTER S

Indicates that the car was just entered into the system on Aug 25 of this year. What's the deal?

Tony

An example of why you should never trust CarFax. It is a 2003 S Boxster built in Germany: Scouser's Porsche VIN Decoder

Most everything is viable on this VIN except the 4 in the 11th position. It should be a letter denoting the manufacture location. If it's wrong, what else could be wrong?

Possible explanation is that it was not a US car - meaning one where CarFax was unable access the registration and inspection information.

Probably was entered incorrectly, hence the "new" Carfax report. Get a photo of the windshield VIN sticker or the door sticker to verify.

I have not trusted any CarFax report since I discover that a family car that had been totaled (crashed and burnt) in an accident still had a clean report several years after it was crushed for scrap..........

I would suggest that if one ran a check on this VIN, a complete history of this Boxster would result:

WP0CB29873U660304

Just sayin'............

I decided the steer clear.

I ran an Autocheck on this car too and found the same lack of information. So I went to the dealership to drive it and get the story. Locally owned, private mechanic, traded in for new Corvette. The car rode well but the clutch seemed stiffer than the other Boxster's I drove. Boxster mechanic I called suggested stiff clutch would definitely call for thorough PPI. It does not have cruise control and seemed plain compared to the one I bought. Still does explain the lack of information. Price on dealership website has been dropped twice.
