Ha! You think it's bad with a Boxster, try owning a 928! There is very little respect for it, even though it was the first, true "clean sheet" (ie, pure) Porsche design. In every year it was made, from 78 to 95, it was the fastest (except for the 930), most expensive top of the line Porsche you could buy, and simply one of the best cars in its class in the world. Faster than the comparable Ferrari or Aston or Audi as well. But look at Excellence, or Panomera, and other magazines, or talk with 911 guys or even Boxster/Cayman owners, and you'll get a sense for what I am talking about. Amazing too, because if you look at the modern Carrera, it has morphed into a rear engine 928.
I truly enjoy my Boxster, and have driven 911s and a RUF 930 turbo, but the 928 remains the best of breed for me still.

My all time favorite Porsche with the engine infront of the seats, the others have clearly never seen risky business. However while the 928 is great I do find it less special, I'd take a 911 over a 458 any day, but an 8 series vs a 928, thats a harder question, I would say it is a more competitive class and aside from performance the 928 doesn't separate itself well.

Well it is Tony Montana's get away car. His previous car had tiger stripes on the inside. I think this is where it all went downhill as far as prestige.
What do most people say when they see it? I mean it just says PORSCHE in big letters on the back so at least they don't ask if its a Toyota Spyder.

I rotate my 4 Porsches for my daily 50 mile roundtrip commute. Most people at work and on the road think my 996 Turbo is another one of my Boxsters.

I think you should put "BOSS BOXSTER" lettering on the back of your Turbo and just go with it.

Nah that is my 3.6 Boxster with x51 ROW code. It is scary compared to the turbo with PSM.

At the Traverse City Porsche Parade as I was trying to line up with the rest of the 911's, a fellow PCA member who was directing traffic as I drove up in my 996TT said no Boxsters allowed!

Someone that drives more Porsches than I do. I drive an 80 911 SC when its not too hot outside, a 94 968 Cab, and a 2001 Boxster S with a Raby full performance upgraded 3.6. I sold my 996 to pay for that motor. I was going to upgrade the 996 as well, but in the end, I didn't really need another car with so much oomph.
My Boxster doesn't have traction control and my 996 did, something I didn't consider at the time. There have been a couple of times I wish I had it on the Boxster, but I've learned when not to push it, thankfully without hurting it. As long as I can get into and out of it I'll never let the Boxster go. I'm one of the geriatric crowd you guys talk about, but not snobbish at all. Any Porsche is a great car and anyone who has driven Porsches knows that.
Right now I'm jonesing for a 914 with a Raby Type IV or a Cayenne S. Somewhat of a conundrum. In a couple of more years I'll probably buy a Panamera. I would never buy a new Porsche. They are just too darned expensive or I'm too cheap. I've only ever had one bad Porsche in 30+ years and I should never have bought it, not having done my due diligence. My Boxster with Jakes magic touch is the seat of the pants fastest car I've ever owned, although I had an upgraded 930 back in the 90s that had more HP, it was hard to get to all the time and a super charged 911 SC that was just plain scary in traffic. I had to remove the supercharger belt when driving back and forth to work in heavy traffic. As far as handling, there is no comparison with anything but the 968 in my experience. Porsche got that one right, but they cost too much at the time, especially with a 4 pot, when the Asian turbo 6s could be had for less, and very few were built. Most are still on the road though and for not very much money up front.
