Alternator dead.. where to buy replacement?

I'm telling you this forum is great. I was thinking of just using a local indy shop and be done with it but I'm sure with all the miles already accumulated more mechanical failures will occur in the future. It seems logical for me to spend dollars for the more challenging repairs and do the ones that are within my comfort zone myself.
