I chose 5 but really would prefer 168. Can one ever have too many? I think not. :)

I liked my 3 dials...but think im a more is more kind of person...5 it is!

Ebell914 09-15-2014 05:32 PM

I had 6 in my last 914- 3 behind the steering wheel and three in the center console....

I would like to have an oil pressure gauge and an oil temp gauge. So, I guess, 5.

These are the two that make it so difficult for me, still gotta be a 3 for me.

Had both and prefer 5 but as long as the tach is in the middle I'm happy.

How about 3 with a Oil Temp & Oil Pressure LED strip?

That looks interesting. I'm not 100% sure I like the "modern" look, but where did you get them? Is it an easy DIY?

I'm guessing Photoshop

I wanted Oil Pressure and Temp guages and was looking for a way to get that that was not overly obtrusive.

This is a Photoshop test to see if I like what it would look like.

I have not built them yet.

I have to agree that the modern LED's mixed in with the classic Porsche style do not mesh very well in that Test.

I think I need to come up with something that flows better and looks more retro but is similarly compact.

Definitely 3 for me. I just which I could have the digital MPH in the center dial like yours.

CraigM 09-16-2014 01:34 PM

Fab986,
That seems odd. Is there an issue with yours, or could it just be set to something else? Seems like something that could be selected through the on-board computer.

I guess it has something to do with the model year, I have a 2001 S. Here's how it looks on mine:

My bad, thought all 986s had central speedo. Bummer man, it is nice.

embryoguy@mac.com 09-16-2014 03:19 PM

how do you guys activate the temp display?

Not by my car, but if you play with the bottom left stalk it will cycle through the options.

Well, assuming your layout is the same as mine - which I've been wrong on once in this thread!

flaps10 09-16-2014 04:22 PM

My '00 S has the digital speed on the centrally located tach, and also displays outside air temperatures. It seems a perfect layout to me, though my intent is to add at least two gauges (oil temp and pressure) on the center console.
