Spare tire and wheel on 2000 Boxster

Recently purchased the Boxster and decided to check things throughout. When I got to the spare tire, it was seriously lacking air. After attempting to inflate it I discovered that the valve stem had a major leak. The tire on the car was the donut type and hard as a rock. Took it to a tire shop, but the guy declined to even touch the tire/wheel.
Does anyone have the red wheel, Continental donut type tire and if so what do you do to get a functioning spare?
