new vw commercials that rag on tuner cars
Anyone else seen these hilarious commercials for the new GTI where two German engineers "pimp" out some tuner's ricer mod and destroy it, then throw out a VW gang sign?! Freakin' hilarious and clever! Makes me think of the Porsche commercials from the 90's where the engineers are coming up with the colors for the 911 - one has a jelly bean, another has his wife's lipstick, etc

When people risk their lives, shouldn't it be for something very important?
Well, it better be.
But what is so important about driving faster than anyone else?
Lots of people go through life doing things badly. Racing's important to men who do it well.
When you're racing, it's life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting.

It IS time for some backlash against ricers, tuners and all of their ilk.
Save the racing for the track, boys!

They are hilarious. At first I didn't get it.....
The actor is the guy who played the psychopath in Fargo
VW needed some help with its ad campaign

I normally think "to each their own..." but last night I had a run-in with a swarm (no other way to think of it at the time) of 4 Civic/Integra "Brraaaaahrump" exhaust carrying idiots. They were cutting off themselves and others in traffic on a side road and up onto the highway (the same route I had to take to get home) where they proceeded to brake and pull parallel to each other (4 cars, 3 lanes) and then race. Just plain stupid driving, and now I can understand where some of the bad comments come from. Could see them pass a state cop on the side of the road up ahead and it must have been called in because an exit or so later there were a bunch of cars sitting to the side of the road behind a cruiser...

I can't count the times Ive almost been hit by guys like this. You get more than one together and its 100 times worse, because they are all trying to prove something to each other.

well there are bad apples in every bunch. I find it 'interesting' when someone is compelled to make a front wheel drive, heavy sedan, with a low powered 4 banger, as loud as humanly possible.
But I've been to many of those Hot Import car shows and there is some real craftsmanship to be found. Some very tasteful understated sleepers.
But your average 18-24 year old can't afford any of that so they go for the all show no go. These guys account for 90% of the comments (rarely compliments) that I get at every other traffic light during top down months.
THe funny thing is I think I've only once seen an Accord, Civic, Scion, Supra, GTI, Hyundai, Jetta, at an autocroos or driving school.
Once in a while I'll get the head nod from a kid in STi, EVO or S2000. (the imports that actually have some left and right wheel turning- performance).

Now this is a gang signal I would flash, yo.
Aside from the commercials, I think those cars are cool too.

Those "fast" ads are so funny to me. I hope they continue the series of commercials for a little while.

Now that's true justice!
On a side note, on my Beetle I have a German Plate on the front that reads, 8rice2day - even though most of the little jap cars would kill my Beetle in a straight line (the VW would prob out handle thru the curves with my suspension mods), the plate gets some great looks and comments

Ricer Rationing Please
In my area (Northern California) these loud no show and no go cars driven by wanna be banger types are everywhere. I am "red faced" for them. They all seem to think that they have the fastest cars in the area. They think an exaust mod, air filter and rims (maybe suspension mods) make them out perform everything out there. Maybe if they pull their sagging pants up and turn down the bass, they could finally get a clue. Oh yeah, get a job too.

To me, this is not about hatred of the way these cars look. I DONT like the way they sound, as they are almost always violating sound and emissions standards.
But the serious issue is one of street racing. I will not bore you with what I have seen on the CA interstates but it is enough to make one both scared and mad.
I hang out with the CHP boys and they regularly talk about scrapping these boys and girls off the Interstate. Sadly, they often take us innocents along with them.
These guys need to grow up and race at the track or turn in their keys.

CA interstates are scary enough without adding street racers into the mix.
