Smile Bumper project started

I always liked the look of front bumper on the Porsche Turbo 996. It wont fit the Boxster 986 though. My options as I saw them were a fiberglass one or see if I could convert the 996 to fit by cutting out and welding in pieces. I decided on the latter. The photos will show you how far I am up to now. I am pretty happy with it the fit is good. Now though I need more parts. A damaged front bumper from a Boxster 986, any will do 2.5, 2.7 or 3.2. Also I need the 996 Turbo radiator ducts. If anyone in the UK has any of these parts for sale could you get in touch please.

I'm a big fan of the 996 turbo/S bumpers as well. Good luck with the sculpting/shaping I would love to see how it turns out.

Looks great so far!

Can you explain how you plan to fill in the voids around the headlights? I don't know anything about bodywork so that looks challenging to me.

Also, maybe its the angle of the photo but it looks like the bumper is slightly offset towards the passenger side?

so I'm guessing you're going to cut out the missing section from the throw away 986 bumper and bond it together?

While you're at it maybe you can add the 996.2 GT2 grill that goes right under the hood line. Or maybe cut out three inlets like on the 996.1 GT3 RS Club Sport. I always wanted to do that.

Hello thstone

The clue to how I am going to fill in the voids as you put it is me asking for a damaged 986 bumper. I am going to cut out the parts I need from that and plastic weld them in. The bumper will be perfectly aligned when it is finished.

Hello Perfectlap

You got it, thats what I am going to do. I have to plastic weld a section of the under-tray in as well, as that is different regarding fixing points. I like the idea of the GT2 grill, I have thought of that. I will have to look at the Club Sport, not thought about that one.

Hello winter.K

I intend to put a few photos of the project on the forum as the job progresses, so keep a look out.
