That kit looks like it helps retain the cable end at the ball studs. Not the cable retainer that you had a problem with.

There is a clip at the cable retainer that holds the cable in place - not just friction. If the clip is engaged, you should not have a problem. But a zip tie would probably provide additional security and/or peace of mind.

Our kit keeps the ball ends of the cable from popping out (plastic becomes brittle, breaks, cables pop off while shifting).




Simple fix and are always used on our spec boxsters / spec 996.
