New ride is here!!! Battery died after 3 days =(

Well its here and it rocks!!! The 2004 986 BoxsterS is a fantastic car! I kind of understand now why Porsche costs about 10k more than the Z4.

Anyway, bad news, battery died after 3 days, I think it is because it was sitting at the parking lot all this time. In a way this is good news as the car has not been driven recently. It had 7000 miles on it and I got it for 43k.

Pictures:

This is my first Porsche and I have fallen in love with the performance and looks!

Very nice car! Congrats!!

There was a very good post here a few days back about batteries. Sounds like you can buy one at Costco. Do a search.

You can get a replacement battery at an autoparts store that will work just fine. Of all the brand name batteries in the United States, they come from 3 different manufacturers (One of them being Johnson Controls), which are then just labeled with the retailer's sticker. So your walmart battery and your die hard battery likely come from the same manufacturing plant. I buy all my batteries from Walmart, they are usually the cheapest, and my last one went 8 years before it died (and that was the cheapest black battery they carry).

edit: I would first try charging your battery and see if it holds. If the car sat a long time before you bought it, then sat for awhile after you bought it, it may have not had enough time to get a good charge in between.

Both Cars are nice GOOD JOB!!!!

My porsche battery was 5 years old no problems. I replaced with a porsche battery, had good luck the first time!!!! Cost was comparable to the Interstate Battery. No Costcos in my area Would agree with Doc put a good charge on it that might be all you need.

Thanks everyone for their comments.

Heres the battery case. I was driving the car the day before pretty much all day, as well as the previous days before with no problems at all. I left it at my garage, woke up and it was dead. I called 1-800-PORSCHE they came and jump started it (Everyone was gone to work as it was morning), I drove for another 30 minutes and then I left the car parked for 45-50 min. When I came back I tried to turn it on and the battery was dead again.

I did not have the time to go to Walmart and get a new one and then replace it so I called 1-800-PORSCHE again and its now sitting at the dealer. I told them to completely replace the battery and also enable my OBD (so I can get outside temperature).

I cannot wait to drive it again.

I think Braile makes a 15 pound battery to replace that 50 pound OEM one.

You make a good point. I think he Costco battery is maybe half the weight of the OEM.

Not cheap though, $180. Definitely the way to go for my next one.
The 04 Boxster needs a diet, its the heaviest Boxster, more than the CaymanS.

Case is closed: Called dealer and raised hell for just getting the car. Free replacement and work done.

aBsOlUt, you should purchase the Porsche Battery Maintainer
code # 980 611 981 00 to properly care for that new battery. This charges through the cig. lighter. Very important for any long term storage too. You can get one for about $55 plus shipping from one of the many on-line places dicsussed here.

Wait until you need so other stuff so the shipping charges are shared by other items- FYI.
