A good day - too fast for Johnny Law

Beautiful day here in Houston today. Got the Box washed at lunch, put the top down, decided to motor through Memorial Park. Couldn't help myself, got the lead foot (super nice windy road). Sure enough, after I get through the chicanes, I get slowed down by construction, look in the rearview, and there's the Man! Motorcycle guy. He motions me over, and I'm sure I'm toast (probably 75 in a 45).

He's a younger guy, walks up to me and asks for the license and reg. Comes back and says "I saw you go by, but you were going so fast, I didn't have time to hit you with the laser! Then you punched it again at the red light. What the hell, I'm letting you off with a warning. Slow down man!"

That's a good day.

WOW. The cop let you off because you were going TOO FAST? You better buy a lotto ticket right now, because today is your lucky day.

Nice... that NEVER happens to me.

Although back when I had my 912 I did have a cop in a small town stop me because he said he wanted to see a porsche up close. No ticket, but I wasn't doing anything wrong either.

You can thank me because I had all your bad luck today. Was taking my 2010 Audi TT roadster to a shop for a PPI (I flip cars for a hobby). Spent 2 days cleaning it up for the potential new owner. Of course it's sprinkling / showering when I need to go. Wait as long as I can (clear skies on the horizon) but can't wait any longer. Streets were sloppy and along the way someone shot a stone and chipped the ws. The TT passes the inspection so we go over to my glass man. He fixes the chip - $20. Twenty min after the new owner is heading for KC, she calls and says the ws is cracking up. I assure her I'll take care of it and send an email to verify.

There goes my profit. So I'm the Ying to your Yang. It all balances out.

Slow down. I'm generally a pretty lucky guy so don't count on me to save you next time you're driving 30 over.

Nice. In 45 years of driving I have had more good experiences when stopped than bad.

Thanks. It's the right thing to do and I'm not really concerned about the lost profit. I'll get satisfaction from knowing my customer is happy.

Now everyone slow down - there will be lots of Johnny Law's out there this weekend. And drunk drivers. Be safe.
