Crunchy sound from window - no longer works

Hi. When putting down the top last night I thought I heard a crunchy sound from the passenger window. When putting it back up, I barely got the window up. Had to push the up button a few times before it was close. I think it's done moving for now. It's not completely closed but just below the roof. Don't want to move it up and down more than I have to. Does that sound like the regulator? If so, any info on how to replace that? I assume I can get the regulator by itself but not sure by the threads I've read so far this morn. Thanks.

Same thing happend tommy drivers window a few days after i got my Boxster as well. Most likely the regulators. Don't buy used ones.

There are a bunchof DIY pages for changing them. IIRC there was one about squirting some silicon spray from the bottom of the door to lubricate the cables on the lower pulleys that may help for a while. You will eventually need to replace the regulators

If the window is not moving at all now, be sure it is not all the way up to the weather stripping as it slides up underneath a lip. You could break the glass if it gets forced when opening and closing the door

I gingerly tested it for opening and closing this morn. Using both the inside handle and the outside it drops, but not as quite as far as before. It just barely hits the roof when you open the door. It goes back up to the not quite closed position when the door is closed, I did not try the window switch or opening the top.

Looks like parts run from $170 for generic to $270 for “OEM”. I found one OEM for $240 but not sure if it’s used yet or not.

The PO replaced the passenger motor so I was hoping I would only have to replace the regulator but I can’t find the regulator by itself

Off to search DIY threads for this replacement.

It's your regulator.

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm going to give this a shot this weekend. I have the owners manual at home, but I don't recall seeing a radio code in there. I suppose I'll need that after I hook the battery back up? It's a PCM/Nav/Bose unit.

OP:your regulator is going out. Get another one.

Which aftermarket brand did you used? I got mine from deutschautoparts (sp?) and it did NOT fit well with the motor.

It was the regulator. Only problem was the motor plug. I still can't figure out how to unplug it. I just worked around it. Took a lot longer to undo than put back together.

Used the pelican articles and Boxster Projects | Power Window Motor Repair

Thanks all.

Is that the same seller listed in the sticky?

I just fitted Pass side one off eBay from dependableautoparts .
$100.00
Fitted no problem , just marked the position of the old one with pen where it bolts down and installed to the same position .

Now the drivers side has started with "the groan of death"

That's ANOTHER 10 minutes work I have to do on the godforsaken car !!

No window grinding

My window not auto adjusting with opening or closing. Is the regulator the issue only if there is grinding? Cause my window isn't grinding - it's working just fine up and down. Could be a fuse? Need help.

Scott - That is likely a switch on your door latch. Search Pelikan. I have the same issue...but I rarely drive my car with the top up. This winter I plan on either replacing the latch or researching further on how to just replace the switch. (if possible).

Definitely not the regulator.
