Mine sound a little deeper than a click and certainly not like a thud when driving over expansion joints and typical CA roads (crap).

I had a similar experience. Make sure the adjustable s are tight. One of mine was loose and I had a slight knocking sound until tightened up. Keep us posted on what you find.
