status update:
since the Porsche is in another city, and my BMW is getting fixed, I am replacing the transfer box and some glow plugs, I called my mechanic, he said he will point out the info you said, to change the brakes and do a full service to the car, also a polish to cover some scratches on the back that I found, I am sure he will not find me the battery cover, (can someone tell me on ebay how to find this?) so I have to start searching in ebay, Found this . And for the rims, its missing 1 logo so ill order 4 of those, I am waiting for the glow plugs of the bmw to come tomorrow so I can go there fix the bmw and give it to the guy to close the deal, since we agreed to just give my bmw for the Porsche with no extra cost, but I will make sure he does a full service on the car and then I will have to take care of the bits and pieces on it, the only thing I would like to add is a parrot Bluetooth and that's it, since it will be my daily car drive, and slowly I will see what I can do, from what I saw its a 2001 model so those dealers here they don't know anything... I will find the VIN and post as well my friends so I can get all the details, and since its a 2001 model I found on ebay:

from the below I think this is what I need to upgrade and fix for my Porsche, any ideas opinions?

Do not bother with cup holders haha, and the engine sounds good enough to make no CD player okay for now.... Sounds like a fair price despite being unsure of what they go for in your market, just make sure you get some money off since it isn't a 2002 as advertised. It is a good car, very possibly a 1997 or 98 though. The odds of It having the 2.7 engine are very low, expect it to be a 2.5 have fun with your test drive!

Does anybody retrofit a 4-spoke wheel to a newer car?

One reason they might is their airbag had activated and they were looking for the cheapest, easiest fix.

The older car--which this surely is--has 2.5 versus 2.7 engine.

You'd think at least the VIN would be original, and there's a VIN digit that indicates year of manufacture.

I know you're excited, but you need to go into this transaction with eyes WIDE open. I'm assuming since you're talking trade the seller is a dealer. If he's fibbing about the model year, what else is he fabricating about the car? I would be very cautious and not trust anything you're told. Trust is earned and the seller is already at negative trust.

Your love affair can quickly go sour if you don't do due diligence. You can enjoy it after you buy it. Be sure to examine it carefully and be ready to walk away if there are red flags. Don't ignore little things because they can be very expensive little things. If you have a BMW, you know German cars are not cheap to maintain.

You've also indicated it doesn't have all the features you'd like to have. Some things you can add, some will be difficult. I bought my first Cayman and it had very few options on it. No problem, I didn't need a lot of options on it and my Boxster had all the options I wanted. However it wasn't long before I was wishing the Cayman had some options the Boxster had but they wouldn't be easy to add to the Cayman (sport chrono & sport exhaust). It wasn't long and my eyes began to wonder, looking for another Cayman. I found my current 08 Cayman and it had everything I wanted. I bought it and sold my 07. I had the 07 less than 2 yrs.

I'll pass along some sage advice my Dad liked to impart: there's always another car around the corner.

Good luck tomorrow / today.

Water pump, about $400, add another $250 for a thermostat and fresh coolant, and while you're at it, the coolant tank, sensor and cap is due for a change. which will run you another $500 or so.

Do you have the tools to do this kind of work? If not, best budget another $500 to $1000 to get you started in that direction, and that is still cheaper than paying the dealer to do it for you.

My Dad just used to say "Hey, put that down before you break it!"

For your refrence tomorrow... the 10th digit in the vin is the production year.
V - 1997,
W - 1998,
X - 1999,
Y - 2000

The older the car the more that the dealer needs to drop from his price.

you will see the numbers 98 in the 7th and 8th digit but this is the 98 in 986. Ignore this, what we are interested in is the 10th digit.

This looks like an early model. I would say 98 or 99. The way to be sure (without doing a VIN look up, which I would suggest anyways) is to look at the label on the seat belt. It will give you the model year of the car.

Yup it's a 2.5 wonderful car but call out the seller for saying its newer, try and get some money out of the pice as it hurts resale to be pre2000 boxsters are great cars but make sure this one is the right one for you. Cheers!

I noticed there are no side airbags in the door in one of the pics. This would indicate a '97 Boxster from what I've read. Unless the doors were replaced for some reason. Might explain why it doesn't have larger wheels as well.

The wheels are common for any year that has the 2.5.... but i didn't notice the air bags until you pointed out, yeah i thought they were standard in 98!

Just my observations...................

This example is a 1999 Boxster, 2.5L base of course, and one of the rare ones produced in Stuttgart, Germany, rather than Uusikaupunki, Finland.

I don't see any visible options; it appears to be a very basic model. Console delete, no radio, door speakers, cruise control, side air bags, or optional 17" wheels. The 16" wheels shown in the pics were standard equipment on MY97-99, along with the four spoke wheel.

The steering wheel has a cover, which leads me to think there is excessive wear on it. IMHO, the seats look like they've been re-upholstered.

Mileage is amazing low, less than 48K miles in 15 years.

10K euro seems a bit steep, but then again, I'm not familiar with the market on the island of Cyprus.

I think thstone offers the best advice:
"And yes, we all had a Boxster Boner the first time we drove one! Don't let that cloud your judgment - as with most things in life, do your thinking with the right head."

But if you're a passionate Greek, I think you'll act as your passion drives you.

Good luck, and as always....I'm just sayin'..................

just to clarify the dealer did not have the papers so he admitted that it was not his car and was from an owner he didn't do it on purposes not knowing the model.

thanks im not greek greek I got 4 nationalities
I saw that it is very basic indeed, but I can get a custom mp3 with monitor and woofer integrated on this, and some cup holders and a leather for the gear shift, that's details, the miles are perfect, as cosmetics I can invest and add things to it, what do u mean rare? why is it rare? yes in my heart I am just still asking if that is a baby Porsche 2.5 and gave me this thrill wth u get when u drive a Carrera or a 911 turbo damn.. I still im shivering from the 1st gear people looking, and best part in the spin that I took, a z4 who just couldn't stop looking on the lights, and when u kick off u can see his head looking down and being regretful, damn I like this, and I AM a bmw car owner who will trade it for this car.

just need to know how much pads would cost
if therer are options u could recommend on ebay uk like dashboard, like some extras I could add.

The car will still have normal air bags and really the side airbags were ahead of their time, if i think right the boxster was the first roadster with side airbags, so owning one without side airbags is not much diffrent than having a BMW Z3 or Mx5 of the time. Seems to be a pretty good car, the miles mean alot, and im sure it is hard to find a good one on the wonderful island of Cyprus!
