Not sure what your second sentence is saying but the PIWIS is sold only to dealerships or leased to them if I'm not mistaken. You can buy a Durametric for your Porshe which is cheaper and works well. Here is the link below.

There were a couple available on another forum very recently, but I haven't seen one come up before. Depending what you want to do, one of the versions of Durametric may suffice.

The ones that have been floating around are the PIWIS 1, which is no longer supported by Porsche, and cannot handle the very latest model cars after 2009. As it cannot be updated, it is a lot of money for a tool that will become more limited with time.

Oh I see what your saying. Apologies. Jfp makes a good poing and I dont see those pop up too much. But if you can't get one of those, you might be quite happy with the durametric. Its the second best option out there next to the Piwis.

In the USA I believe by Federal law this equipment must be available to the public or at least to independent shops. I know how to find on Mercedes' website how to buy theirs, but haven't looked regarding Porsche. The Mercedes system IIRC is ~ $25K.

The PIWIS is available to anyone via a lease only deal; what you get has several fucntions disabled, first year lease cost is $17.5K plus tax.

You can meet the letter of the law, while totally violating its spirit............
