I was referring to conventional engines. The 918 is hybrid like the P1. That's a whole new can of million dollar worms.

The 956 was conventional... and while priced highly the 918 is carrying about quite alot of weight with if i am right less horsepower than the Nissan. (sorry i dont follow average car companies much) Despite this though if it wasnt for emission regulations and there was a 918 with just the v8 and the weight taken away from the hybrid drive train i am fully convinced it would maintain its time if not a faster one. Especially if it was matted with turbos the size of Texas like the Nissan is.

Thanks for all the info so far. I would only be putting around 5000-6000 miles per year on the car. I hear so many conflicting opinions on how expensive it is to own/maintain these cars, I don't know what to believe.

Yes but the car that claimed Stefan Bellof (the forgotten star in Senna's surreal '84 Monaco grand prix) was never a production car like the GT1 for instance (Porsche produced 25 street legals).

N-ring:
GT-R Nismo ($150K - 600 HP, 479T) - lap time 7:08<-for those who think it's "boring" and "drives itself".

918 Spyder ($845K - 608/887 HP, 940T ) - lap time 6:57
997 GT2 RS ($250K - 620 HP, 516T) - lap time 7:18
997 GT3 RS 4.0 ($250K - 500 HP,339T) - lap time 7:27
Ferrari 458 Italia ($240K - 570 HP, 398T) - lap time 7:28
McLaren 12C ($240K - 616 HP, 445T) - lap time 7:28
991 GT3 - still on fire...

That's what we all said.

Did not know the Nissan had only 600HP.... i do greatly respect that car, i would never buy one because they are much to mainstream, the sports car for the gearhead that knows nothing but numbers and speed.

I really respect the car, even though its fast because of its genuinely out of this world awd system. And i do have to give them props for keeping six cylinders at the top of the ring.... So many cars today can be bought with 550 plus hp.... yet still its the 6 cylinder cars that know a thing or two about weight balance and corners that rule the ring. Back to the original argument though the Hybrid system in the Porsche is no more unconventional than the sorcery that happens in the gtr's AWD system.

What bothers me isnt when someone says a gtr is fast, what bothers me is when they say its a great car.

So I test drove an '03 Boxster S today and was a little let down with it. Compared to the '02 911 Carrera I drove it seemed much slower. The 911 threw me back in the seat when I floored it, not the same for the Boxster S. It was definitely fun to drive in the corners...kind of like a big go-kart, but I didn't feel much torque in the car, namely the low end. I'm going to have to test drive another one and then go try another 911 and compare some more. And don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing the car at all. I was just hoping it would have the same "throw you back in your seat" thing that the 911 had, even though I know it's less powerful.
