It is a known issue that a worn or damaged gas cap issue can cause problems. I don't recall the code it throws off the top of my head but do a forum search for "gas cap" - it's in here somewhere.

With a car that has had water damage, wiring and sensor connections are suspects.

I would check the connections to the evap sensors.

On a Jeep Wrangler I had a similar code and sure enough it was the rubber seal on the gas cap had developed cracks.
