Questions about buying a parts car

Someone locally is selling their 2000 base box. it has high mileage and engine just died from overheating. What would the a realistic price for the car? Was thinking of using it as a parts car since i'm pretty new with owning a box and it would be a good way to get to know the car.

TIA
Mark

I was thinking about that, but decided I wanted someone else to store my parts car. I'm willing to pay a little extra at this point as long as I don't have to store all the extra parts I won't use.

A decent Boxster roller typically sells for around $3,000.

But be advised that there are many, many components and systems that you can't test without a working engine. For example, the A/C compressor might have also failed - same for power steering pump and alternator. No way to know before you buy.

Same for suspension, brakes, transmission, fuel system, evap system, secondary air system, cat's, mufflers, MAF, o2 sensors, radiators, oil pump, fuel pump, etc.

Assuming that the battery is dead, then you don't know about the window lifts, top motor and operation, instrument cluster, ECU, immobilizer, lights, turn signals, cruise control, radio, speakers, HVAC controller, etc.

The roller that I bought (with a blown engine AND a dead battery) to build my Spec Boxster race car had several other things wrong with it (than just the engine) that the seller did not disclose. The engine was just the final straw.

Expect this and you won't be disappointed.

Yes many of these cars get neglected, esp if they are the second or third owners. I was lucky on this last one I got.
