I'm going to remove my belt and.....

Diagnose the startup noise today. No more Schrödinger's cat.

There. I said it. Now, I must follow through!

Note 1. Fluid spray around WP pulley but not wet. Dry but there.

Note 2. Belt sits forward of wear mark on guide pulley.

Belt off next.

Runs fabulously smooth and quiet with no belt.

WP pulley moves 1/4" in all directions if I grab it and wiggle it.

Tensioner and guide pulleys have just a tiny amount of movement.

I'll drive it down later for parts and get to it next month.

Kidding!! Water pump it is. Hope Porsche has one on shelf. Bolts are perfect. 130k and factory pump.

Are you going to go with the low temp thermostat while you are in there? And how do you like the UD pulley? Did you DIY? I think I am on the original WP at 109k and a new pump, tstat, and UD pulley are on my short list.

I've had the LT stat on my shelf for 6 months! Now is the time.

UD pulley gave me more horse than bypass pipes. Great mod. Did it myself. There's a few tricks to it but easy swap. You'll need a shorter belt.

These those vanes we hear about. I've never seen one so thought it would be of interest to someone else to see them.

Not original pump. Gasket was 2-piece already.

Not Porsche pump. No numbers.

You can see where the impellers were rubbing.

Plastic. Very hard but I can scratch the very slight mould marks off with my thumb nail.

New gaskets come as one. You have to cut it and cut the one on the car I have learned.

New pump 3lb even.

And great job on the water pump!

Thanks. Zero startup noise now!!! Such a relief to change parts list from belt tensioners, oil pump rebuild, chain tensioners, and such to DONE.

Dad was a union ironworker. He needed no belt, but mom used a wooden spoon on back of hand. Posted it that was because my friends dad told us both that a few times and my dad would have agreed I needed it.

Did your family doctor have a smoking room in the hall of his practice? Ash trays in the exam rooms?
