Thank you... I keep my eyes out for other Porsche owners now.. As for the filter... Well they are supposed to be oiled... But not slugged with grease like that. I'm unsure what the P1 had in mind but I'm currently fixing his wire disaster for the amp and sub wires. I used to own Southwest Speed and I've never seen a nice car come in with such a disaster of an install done. And whoever did, bypassed the amp fuse with a cover wire... I'm sure grease got sacked in. There was oil on top of the block. Not sure where from but one of my days off I need to rip the intake off and find the source and clean it all off. But finding the economy issue is my next quest. Not sure if these MAF sensors can be cleaned. But till I find out I'm not taking any action.

Keep us posted on what you find on the issue. I have the same poor gas mileage problem on my 2001. Changed the air filter, fuel filter, and new sparkplugs. Have not cleaned the MAF yet, but that will be my next step. Quote:

Question... Could the fuel Gauge level sensor or needle in dash be miscalibrated ? You know when you fill up, and it takes a bit of driving before the needle starts to move. This car starts moving when you leave the station... I'm gonna carry a gallon of gas with me and drive it till its empty. See how many miles I get to a tank.

Driving to the bottom of the tank is not always good. Lots of crud at the bottom. Some have had issues with their fuel gauges. Maybe someone will chime in. Mine seems to be pretty accurate.

160miles on the tank... Below a quarter tank. Might just take the car back and get my DSM back. Even with the power tune and 1800cc Injectors I was getting average of 21 mpg. The fun of driving a Porsche isn't worth horrible mileage

Eclipse's are girl cars. Even if they have built engines and huge Turbo chargers. And I owned and built 9. Just got tired of throwing insane amounts of cash in them and not getting from much time with them. I could have bought a house already. I don't care. I see a girl car as a car that catches the girls eye. And so far it is. I watched a video of the 987 box vs matching z4...from top gear? Can't remember but it's a YouTube video under Boxster drift. Lol it was awesome. I love the line about "Its fun to just say 'I own a Porsche'"
I don't mean to offend anyone. Esp since I need to make friends here. This will be my car for the minimum of 4 years till its paid off and I can get into a Cayman S. Saw the new one at the local dealership... I sure felt out of place there. Everyone in suits... 150k cars all over. Quote:

Yeah, I had the same feeling the first time I went to PofA. I didn't even go inside -- just pulled out and drove away. Once you meet other Porsche owners, though, you'll feel much more at home, even in the Porsche dealership.
Take your car to Jim's Fine Auto Service and get Mickey to hook it up to the computer and see what it's doing. Spend the $49 and join the PCA. And if you can get away for an early lunch, a bunch of the hard core local PCA members have lunch from 11:20-12:20 every Wednesday at the Owl Cafe. They're a great bunch, very welcoming and very experienced. |
Wednesday is my only days off. So I could. I did have a Porsche tech that works for PoA run it and came back fine. I'm gonna try to drive like... Idk easy... That way I can try to get the best mileage I can. 15mpg...idk.still seems kinda rough.
Picked up my friend from work last night and he was smiling when we got to our destination. He wants a Porsche now. And he used to talk soo much smack because I love them. Quote:

I just started tracking my mileage again, here's what I got recently.
16.7 mpg... mostly around town (all measurements using USA gallons) 24.25 mpg... all interstate 70+ on the way to a track day 11.56 mpg... after my track day :) This was done by filling up the tank and dividing miles driven by gallons used, not using the OBC ( which is enabled but I don't have the stalk) EPA for 2000 S is 16 city and 23 highway (18 combined) so I feel I am in line with that. I don't take it easy, I get to the speed limit quickly and safely :) The reason I started checking again though is that I felt like I was having to fill up too often. Sometimes these cars can get finicky and only let you fill up to around 3/4 of a tank (or less) which could make it seem like you are always adding gas. Search for threads on this to see what other folks have encountered on this. They are great cars! Welcome! Steve Edit: some links on the gas tank filling issue. I fill the tank slowly now (never at pump full speed) and when it clicks, I am done. If it really is full when it clicks, and you force more gas in, it will slosh out and down the side of the car... I have done it a few times and it is aggravating :) Now I make sure to get the nozzle all the way in the tank, fill it nice and slow, and then when it clicks I am done. A couple of points to add here. Most members here are Americans. In Canada we use litres and used to use Imperial gallons measure. Now the Mericans use a US gallon coz they like to be different. A US gallon is smaller than an Imperial gallon. So if you use litres you have to get the conversion to US gallons right so you can compare apples to apples.
My previous car was a Miata and the local club prez used to say don't overfill the gas tank coz it could trigger something(CEL?). Anyway with the Box this does not seem to trigger anything except excess fuel on the ground. However if I fuel to the first click of the pump then it probably is about 7/8 full. If I keep on pumping even though the clicks continue then I can get several more $$ of gas into it. So now I don't fill it up completely coz I don't check the gas mileage as often. It is too depressing to do so. As my daughter used to say you don't buy a Porsche to save gas! Anyway for each Imp. gallon I get 20 around the city and 30 on the hiway. US gallon a bit less. Of course the right foot has a big impact on mpg. Guy |
That's about the same mileage I get. Got 34 mph driving from Brandon to Winnipeg one day - 200km of dead straight road, flat ground, slight tail wind, top down, 115 kph steady speed. Could probably do a bit better if I had cruise control.
