So... I got bumped into
3 Attachment(s)
I took the car out, because it was 50 degrees and of course the one day I drive it out someone bumps into it in the parking lot.
It cracked the back bumper, the guy left insurance information on the windshield. Anyways, how much you think a new bumper will cost + paint at a Porsche Dealership? PICTURES POSTED |
The bill will probably be about $1600 for a new bumper cover and paint. That's what the insurance company paid out to the dealership here when the same thing happened to me a couple of years ago.
|
$1400 - $2000 depending on whether the bumper is new or reconditioned and local body shop rates. Had mine done last summer for $1500.
|
Do you have pics of the damage?
|
You can recondition a 986 bumper? Its right on a flex point so I don't think it will be possible.
Where should I take it, independent or dealership? Insurance is going to pay |
Find a Porsche approved body shop, or one with lot's of experience working on them. There can be damage behing the bumper cover, make sure they take a good look at everything back there. Westmont Body Werks just off Ogden Ave does good work and is a Porsche-approved shop; Ohare Auto Body does lots of Porsche work.

I was just thinking of a Porsche Dealership...
|
Ask for a check from the insurance company based on an estimate from the body shop that your local Porsche dealer uses. Don't let the insurance company send payment directly to the body shop. Once you get the check try and source the new part on your own and negotiate a good proce price from a trusted body shop. I wouldn't spend a ton of money on painting front or rear bumpers. Unless the car never leaves your sight sooner or later someone in an SUV will back into it again. I'm in for my fourth front bumper repsray and third back bumper repsray. Whatever money is left over send back to the insurance for your next premium :)
I would also ask for diminished value from the other guy's insurance. If this was reported to carfax you'll have fewer buyers as many will not touch a car with any "stories" as they call it. |

Take your car to Ultimate Paint in Lake Bluff. They do all the high-end work for the north shore, and for The Porsche Exchange. 847-295-7404. |
All State
I was going to go to the Porsche Exchange and get a quote. Good idea? |

I've never done biz with Ulitimate Paint Shop (luckily) but I know he does A1 work. You are in good hands. |
Alright, I'll head over there
|
Also, how can you mess up putting a new bumper in and repainting? I'm sure there was no other damage.
|
To answer your question, YES, your bumper can be repaired. I'm with State Farm and they won't replace anything if they don't have to and told me mine had to be repaired, not replaced. Grrrr.
