I drove a 996 turbo a few weeks ago and the first thing that came to my mind is "I would kill myself having a car like that". It's brutal and stupid fast.

Wow that's a new car. When it comes to porshes, there really isnt a bad color, from the factory that is. Come on down to Dallas and drive it home. Wait......I can drive it up there for if you like?

No brainer: ROAD TRIP!!! Take a few days and the longest route possible home, you will thank yourself. Life is too short not to fill it with great experiences. Do it!

You will likely need snow tires sooner or later if you drive it. Obviously if you have it shipped not so. Probably more economical to ship it but for fun for the $$$ driving it would win out.

I just bought 2 Pirelli Winter sottozero to replace the old Blizzaks on the rear. The front are still Blizzaks. What a difference these tires make. Not so much breakaway on my 2001 Box base now. More stable. I don't think all season radials would cut it in significant snow for you once you get further north.

9K mile car? I would NOT road trip it home. You'll do more paint damage in a couple of days than the previous owner managed in 10 years. I would look into get the front end clear bra covered down there, maybe the prices are cheaper than up here where everything is a ripoff.

The color combo seems appropriate for a grand touring Porsche. Civilized and elegant. Some nice wheels should give a more updated feel. I'd go BBS mesh, the wider fenders really shine with that wheel while still looking fairly stock with a bit of a motorsport edge.

Snow tires or even all season tires are hard to find for a 996 TT

Turned out the car has a small leak in the chain housing gasket or somewhere else in the motor. My mechanic estimates it'll cost 3-4k to track down and fix, the spoiler is leaking hydraulic fluid and the tabs that hold a tail light are cracked. I will be turning it down.

I was thinking of disregarding the issues as the car is practically new , but it'll cost me 6k to repair all these items and my practical side says why pay 45k to buy a car that leaks oil and needs 6k of repairs.

Sorry to hear that this one didn't work out. I guess the old adage "If it seems too good to be true" applies here. It makes me wonder if these issues were a result of abuse, neglect or just inactivity (causing seals to dry out, etc.). Things happen for a reason. I am sure you will find the right car. Just be patient.

There will be others. Gotta keep in mind, your target model is a decade or more old, it will most likely need some form of attention......:cheers:

Its an 01. I realize its old and would have been ok with everything but the leak.

Nice car. One owner and low miles. Good thing you did a PPI and Kevin on Rennlist gave you good guidance. Offer them $39 for the car, and sit back and watch. Ship the car, you don't want salt and winter hazards.

I personally am not that familiar with 996 TT cars, I would guess there is a fair amount of crap / turbo related plumbing to remove to get to the chain or valve cover gaskets. It would prove interesting to hear what JFP in PA thinks of these cars and their potential issues, his opinion is the one I would seek out if in the market.

Wish I was in the market for a TT -- too many toys.

Can you use the report to get leverage on price?

I haven't dealt with the TT engines -- but seems awfully high a price quote for
a gasket replacement on the chain housing (assuming its similar to other air cooled engines.
