You can have the code cleared for you at most Autozone locations as well as O'Reillys. You can also make the investment and grab your own OBD II scan tool. I recently purchased a bluetooth scanner on Amazon and along with the Torque app I can view CELs and clear them myself.
Not sure about your second issue, but doesn't seem normal to me. I'm sure others will chime in.
