I just did this upgrade today on my 1999.
I used the speakers listed in the original post, and they worked great with no mods as stated by OP.
I feel it provided at least a 25% improvement.
I had already replaced the OEM radio with a new Pioneer unit, so now I'm all set.
Thanks to the OP for this information.
