underdrive pulley: best option

I'm putting my replica boat anchors on for winter also known as winter wheels on winter tires that run four months a year. I'm thinking a wee bit more oomph can help move the dead weight in the rear.

Which UD pulley should I get? Granted not a very complex piece. ..
Maybe group buy? These are said to be the best bang for the extra HP buck.

Was contemplating one also.
Does anyone know if the revised version of the BBI pulley corrected the problem that allowed some of the early units to shear off at the spokes? Or is this still an issue?
Thanks to anyone with knowledge.

I went with the RSS version and a new belt . It has been on my S for over 1 year now with no problems . getting one for my 996 also . just remember you have to make a little cut to the engine to fit it . no big deal .

I would be interested in a group buy for the RSS underdrive pulley.

I've had the rss for over 3 years. It's a fine product.

Great advice JR. I've seen the pic.

For those of you who missed class that day, Jake is talking about the UDP in this thread that failed:

I also recommend the RSS UDP. There is a link to buy the pulley and belt in the above thread.

RSS UDP on mine. Best mod for that feeling of more torque and HP around.

I say "feeling" because I've not dyno'd the car to see if it's actually more powerful, but it sure does feel stronger pulling off the line than before.

It seems that a lot Boxster owners do the UDP mod and all seems happy with no down sides. Issues I've seen on other cars is that charging becomes a problem and when things get hot (I'm in Phoenix) the cooling and A/C system struggle unless rpms are consistently up. I ask my indie about this mod and he indicated that he would recommend this mod for race cars only. Any thoughts from those that have done this mod.

I was also worried about cooling, charging, and steering. See this thread below.

In my experience on my Boxster street car (before it was converted to a race car), the cooling system worked exactly the same in all conditions including 110F days in the desert. The charging system worked fine and there was no change in power steering feel. This is one of the very few street upgrades that do not seem to have a downside or tradeoff.
