1996 993 Carerra2
 

As th post says...carerra 2. I have a chance at one. Neighbors brothers car. 44,000 miles silver with red interior. 6 speed with touring suspension. Nothing fancy...17in wheels.m looks like it will need a couple things...the rear stone plastic fender covers are cracked, some rock chips up front, etc.

What is fair on something like this? I know 993 are slowing becoming collector. He is asking 29000. I am thinking this is a 24,000 car? Any thought?

Sounds a bit high to me also, but in my opinion it is one of the nicest looking body styles that Porsche ever made.

Sounds pretty similar to what I bought a couple of years ago. Assuming most things check out (SAI, valve guides, leak down test, clean / accident free past) 29k is a very fair asking price IMO. I've witnessed cars like that sell in a matter of minutes on Rennlist for more money, not exaggerating. Plan on spending 2 to 5k (at least) on bringing it up to snuff.

Yeah every record on the car comes with. This was a drs car. He passed away and gave it to his son in law who for the past year has taken it out a couple times a week to drive it but he is NOT a car guy and has no interest in keeping it.

Like I said, sounds pretty much like mine; 2 owner (#2 was retirement aged Lawyer not mechanically inclined, didn't want to deal with niggly issues cropping up) 47k mile car, Polar Silver with Grey interior, condition in and out on mine was pretty stellar though. I paid 32k and there was a line of buyers waiting if I passed. Like I PM'ed you, if you pass let me know, 993's are money in the bank. Hope you get it Trimer........:cheers:

This might not be what you want to hear, but:

I would say that low to mid $30's is the right price for that car (assuming it checks out OK and has evidence of proper maintenance).

$29K is a low asking price and a $24K offer feels like a low-ball offer to me.

On second thought, I raise my estimate to mid-to-upper $30's. Seller should be asking $36-$38K, and you should snatch it up at $29K. If I was in the market for (another) 993, I would buy this car in two seconds for several thousand more than that.

(again, assuming it checks out).

$29k sounds like a steal (I agree that it should be in the $35k range), but be prepared to fork over big $$$ as soon as the secondary air injection problems start

29K sounds like a steal. That is not a 996. If all checks out like stated, I jump all over that.

$29k would be a really good buy. I got that a number of years ago for my 89 C4 (it needed nothing and had about the same mileage). A 96 C2 is more desirable and easily worth more than $29k assuming the mileage is correct and it needs nothing major. The only downside is that not everyone is going to like the interior color. I happen to think it is a great color combo. I might offer him $28k assuming he expects you the negotiate and do a proper PPI and go from there. Good luck. The 993 is a great car and a good investment.

$29k seems like a good deal if the car checks out with a PPI. Hell, my dad's '91 964 Targa is getting up into the mid-$20k range, and it has three times the miles. :D

SAI issues have been commonly dealt with on a DIY basis, not THAT big of a deal:

Another regularly used method is to use bicycle brake cable and fish it up into the passages while using a drill to break through the carbon build up. Quotes I've heard to have a shop deal with it are $750 to $1500.

I know I shouldn't say this out load, but none of the guys I know with 993's have ever had to deal with SAI problems, damn I KNOW I'm gonna regret that. :eek:

Good to know, two of my buddies had the SAI problem and both had to pay big dollar to get it fixed

At 29K and 44,000 miles, jump on it! 993s are outstanding cars and they are appreciating in price.

He is asking a fair price and is evidently factoring in the repairs that have yet to be addressed. Which means a) be sure the 993 is the Carrera you want and b) make sure this is the 993 you want. That color combination is not for the general audience and with many well looked after 993 garage queens out there awaiting a good offer for the owner to flip the car, patience will bring the 993 you want.

I would HIGHLY recommend you drive the 964 and a few 911's before committing $35-40K on what will essentially be a garage queen. Personally I think a Boxster driver would prefer the tighter more connected feel of th 964, which interestingly enough has a better coefficient of drag than the 993..Porsche really splurged on developing the 964 as the first legit safe and modern Carrera. Also I think the high fenders that did not make it to the 993 will set the 964 apart as the best preservation of the classic 911 while avoiding antique Carrera issues. It will be very sought after some day particularly the RS cars. I would never sell a 964. Whereas what came before and after really lack one thing or another that the 964 has. Its truely the best of both worlds Carrera.

Yep. some people love it some think it's too much. Most would prefer a simple Black interior. More potential buyers is good when it comes to buying a garage queen that you think you'll be flipping before moving on to yet another collectible Porsche.
