ideas on an interesting sound?

folks,

ive noticed an interesting sound coming from the rear passenger side (while standing outside) near the rear vent in front of the rear wheel.

Its like a rata-tat-tat-tat .. type of sound. For those of you who've been driving for 30 years .... it sounds a bit like the sound of a carburetor in older cars!!

my boxster surely isnt from 1980 ...

any ideas?

There is a cooling fan behind the vent...sounds like it is hitting something. When the engine is first started from sitting overnite, do hear hear that sound. Fan will not come on until temperature reaches a certain degree for it to engage.

thanks for ur input.

its not the fan ... cos after engine off .... sometimes the fan stays on (to cool engine) .. and the sound stops ... while the fan is still on.

anyone have the part number or picture of the "vacuum pump"?

i cant find it on pelicans website.

in fact when i search on the forum for "leaks / vacuum" etc ... everyone seems to use different nomenclature for what part is actually leaking or failing.

Get a nice mechanics stethoscope.

Does the noise change with engine RPM?
