I drove my Elise from Chicago to Vegas and back and that was the best trip of my life but that was done in the spring. And with a new car. And I made a lot more money, which helps in emergencies. lol.
Im kinda leaning towards driving it, but that's a long ass drive.

Congratulations on a beautiful car! If you do decide to drive it home (and I really think you should) I will be with you in spirit as mine goes into winter storage this coming Monday. I need something to help lessen the pain…you're my ticket! Post pictures, lots of pictures of the drive!

Congrats, I think that colour combo is probably THE best for a Boxster and the low mileage is nice. I buy all my Porsche parts from Sunset since they're the cheapest;) I think you could drive it home in 2 days- 70mph most of the way and 80 in Nebraska and Wyoming (?) but weather could be a real problem- there's a mountain pass in Oregon (I84) and then the open plains thereafter. If the long-range forecast is good than I say go for it! A breakdown seems VERY unlikely.

Super choice and a wonderful looking car. That's basically the definitive 986.

An early pre facelift car in silver with Boxster Red leather. The ur Boxster, so to speak.

Looks like a timewarp example in stupendous condition. You are a very lucky boy. Enjoy!

Where in Fl are you?

ELoomis 11-15-2013 05:36 PM

You gotta drive it. 3 days in the box through the mountains, are you kidding? It's a no brainer!

I'm in lake city, just west of you, if you are in Jax.

This seems familiar, did we chat once before very briefly?

Lookup Montway auto transport. Theyre out of rosemont, but have drivers all over. It took them a total of 6 days to get my car to me from LA to Northwest Indiana from the time I paid till te time I was in the drivers seat. It was 675 total cost with a cash discount on an open carrier but they do offer closed transport for an extra premium. Very professional driver. Highly recommended and should save you a lot over driving it. As fun as that sounds, get it home and make sure everything works well before you're 10 hours from home in need of repair. As much as these cars are great until you make sure you've got one that has everything sorted, take it easy. My two cents

Wow, 675 is cheap!
I was leaning towards driving it but if they can ship for close to that its hard to pass up.
The service guy assured me that the car would make it anywhere in the USA, but I think its wise to make sure its well sorted etc.
Guys, don't worry abt me not driving it, it WILL get driven. Ill decide by Monday and I DO have a sense of adventure.
I could write a book but no one would believe me. :)

Montway is 759. That's a couple hundred less than what it would cost me to drive it.
Thanks for the tip.

Paying other people to drive it before you?
That has to be a sin of some sort. :D

RawleyD 11-15-2013 11:49 PM

Speaking of road trips..
I've had my Box for almost 4 months now/ 3k miles. It's been wonderful, just feels really great and I almost have no fear of a break down (*knock on a very large block of wood*).

Thinking of heading down to Florida from VA myself, take in some sights, visit the beaches, and overall just have a really fun driving time in the warmer areas south of me.

So maybe I'll hit some of you Southeastern 986 members soon. :)

Not trying to raise controversy. :o But I noticed allot of the silver Boxsters have a tone difference in the front bumper covers that you don't see in the rear bumper covers. This car included or is this just a bad observation.

Ah, but they wont be "driving" it, they will be transporting it.
Heck, its a used car anyway even if they did drive it I guess. :)

I know what youre talking about, ive seen it on a lot of red cars, silver, yellow, etc...I believe some of them the front bumper was painted.
Mine looks pretty good though, I know it has 3m shield on it.

Reguardless this is a nice looking car and I like the colors enjoy it. Welcome to the forum.

Hey, if Sunset kept that old of a Boxster, it must be a really good one. I live in Portland, they don't keep old Boxsters on their lot, wholesale them right away. Fly in, drive it home, get to know it. Nice find

That's what they told me, that they usually just wholesale older Boxsters out. This one they kept.
They took detailed pics for me and the only blemish is 3 tiny nicks in the paint on the drivers side fender just above the wheel well. They said they used to just fix stuff like that but nowadays people put a paint depth scanner on it or see it was fixed then they think it was in an accident so they just leave it alone.
Its there but very minor.
They gave the print out of the cars service history and besides an ignition switch problem several years ago, its been trouble free.
They seem pretty upfront and honest, Ive asked several direct and point blank questions which they answered. Theyre a car dealership, Im sure if I don't ask they might not tell me, but since I asked I don't think they want to jeopardize theyre reputation over a ~12k car.
The guy I am dealing with is Gregg Rennord. Hes been pretty good considering how much Ive called him and pestered him. Tough doing this stuff over the phone on an older used car sight unseen.
Anyway, Monday they will have all my paperwork and the remainder of my down payment. I believe I will call the place mentioned earlier and have it shipped. Weather permitting Ill zip that thing up to the winding roads of Wisconsin asap.
Stay tuned for a video review of the car and driving impressions.

Also, Ill start budgeting for mods. I understand the car is all stock but Id like to get some headers (cheap ones) mid pipe and mufflers, derestrict the intake, UDP, and have it reflashed for the mods and rev it to ~7k.
First thing though is the m030 suspension and maybe new tires next spring.
Fun.

You should swing by and test drive it for me. :)

From the dealership, should be pristine, and did you notice the low mileage! Nice purchase.
