Dangermobile - End of the Season Review

As of November 1st, the Dangermobile was officially taken off the road for the Winter. However, I'm please to say that this season marked the most mileage I've ever put on the D-mobile. A whopping 1600 miles !! And, it was driven with the top down no less than six times (stop the madness !). In addition, it was caught in the rain 2 or 3 times (sacrilege !), I allowed one of Danger Girls to put her feet down on the floor mat (guaranteed to work 60% of the time, every time!) and narrowly escaped a bird crapping on the top (wholesale destruction !) The odometer now read 22, 364 miles. Holy end times !! I may have to replenish the original windshield washer fluid now !

Jager 11-04-2013 05:06 PM

When you decide to add windshield washer fluid to the reservoir make sure and buy the good stuff, and by all means do not, I repeat, do not over-fill… The mess that fluid makes is indescribable.

Timco 11-04-2013 05:49 PM

I drive in snow!

Year round, baby!

RawleyD 11-04-2013 06:22 PM

Nice JD!

I have put twice that mileage on mine, and have only owned it since August 1st.

Top down probably 3 dozen times. lol :P

I'll borrow Coreseller's scissor jack and have my mechanic do it.

Steve Tinker 11-04-2013 11:46 PM

You mechanic needs a big jack to get under the Dangermobile....

Hold on, I don't drive in snow -all year round- just during the winter.

thstone 11-05-2013 11:47 AM

No Porsche for 6 months? I'd be in tears - for the next 6 months!

Worse, no Danger Girls for 6 months either :(

husker boxster 11-05-2013 01:52 PM

I'll drive Punkin another week or two, then throw the snows on the Cayman and drive her through the winter.

Not the green LE Cayman ?

It is so odd for me to hear you guys talking about preparing or garaging cars for winter. In the city where I live it is more or less top-down weather for 10 months of the year. In fact, in the entire state of Western Australia (a state with over 1,000,000 square miles of area, nearly 4 times the size of Texas) it does not snow. I have never used snow chains, I've never even used anything but summer tyres regardless of the season.

It does put things into perspective and I now have a great deal of respect for guys that persevere with Boxsters knowing well that they will only get a few good months (or even weeks) a year in which to truly enjoy them.

Yeah, but you guys not only drive on the wrong side of the road, the steering wheel is on the wrong side as well. :p

You forgot that we need REALLY sticky tyres as well. How else does one stay firmly planted on the ground in the southern hemisphere!

That's right JD... If you actually looked at Australians from outer-space they are driving on the right/correct side of the road but upside down.

Wasn't Australia at one time - just a big penal colony for the UK ? :p

Yes it was. The country was essentially settled by English convicts, although it could have been worse and we could have got the Puritans. ;)

Nimbus117 11-06-2013 02:14 AM

These days, Australia ships their convicts to the UK, they all work in bars in London.

+1 for the steering wheel on the right (correct) side:

OK, now back to the Aussie bashing.

Almost used the heater

on my way to work early this morning, top down, thought about putting a little warmth on my feet, but decided 72 was warm enough.

I have zero risk of encountering deadly venomous things in my back yard. During our few weeks of pleasant weather I can go to the beach without fear of being eaten. I have zero risk of my house being consumed by a brush fire, and an extremely minimal risk of being flooded out or having my house dropped on some witch by a tornado. Earthquakes are for other people to worry about, and it would have to be a whopper of a tsunami to make it 1500 miles overland from the nearest ocean. I can live with a few months of snow - seems to be a pretty mild price to pay for living in what is probably one of the safest places on the planet.

Sidetracking the thread here but I think that you and I Mark live in good places. Heard this morning that Vancouver is the most congested city to drive in in North America. More so than LA, New York. Who would have thought? If I lived in Vanvouver that would drive me to buying a tiptronic.....

JD - sorry to hear that you are hibernating your yellow box. I will be thinking of you when I drive throughout the winter.....

Nor does he have that 1983 Linda Blair classic, Chained Heat!

And yet he claims to be a prison movie buff...

(Other classics also missing from the list: Midnight Express, Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, Cool Hand Luke, Get the Gringo... the list goes on)

Johnny Danger 11-07-2013 07:10 AM

Let's not forget this cinematic masterpiece !

Yep they are sending back the crooks that are surplus to their needs. Please don't ship them to Canada. We have got all the baddies we can handle.....:)

All the ones I know that go to the UK seem to be bankers. So yes, I suppose that confirms your point that it is the crooks that we are repatriating to Mother England.

Over-run........I think not !!
There's a grand total of about 20 million Australians around this world (not enough I know, but) which is less than the population of some of the larger cities.

And yes we work in bars 'cos the beer is cheap and we tend to drink a lot. And then we take all the best looking women away from the Poms as part payment for the poor grog....:p
