I tried all the above and all the instructions online on resyncing the key but it never worked and I'm not sure I found anyone online that has tried the same steps on a 986 that did make it work.

Bottom line, you probably have to order 2 new remotes and have them reprogramed. It will run you about 200-250 for everything.
No water. Car is garaged and kept dry and warm.
Where is the board located and how is access made ?
