Remote problem...

My remote suddenly stopped working the central lock system: so far:

I changed the remote battery and verified it has 3 v
2. Checked the micro switches , the red light flashes when the button on the switch is depressed
3. Verified the remote emits an RF signal. Our local FLAPS has a testor

4. Tried turning the key in the door lock 2x, I did get a beep .

5. I've been driving the car to see where the system would relearn the signal.

Is there another way to fix this ? The car is a 1998

My remote suddenly stopped working too. The basic answers you will get are...

-check for water under the driver seat
-check to make sure the board that the remote sits on is not cracked
-some have had success with resaudering the board

I tried all the above and all the instructions online on resyncing the key but it never worked and I'm not sure I found anyone online that has tried the same steps on a 986 that did make it work.

Bottom line, you probably have to order 2 new remotes and have them reprogramed. It will run you about 200-250 for everything.

You don't say if both keys stopped working or only one? That will determine if the problem is with the key or the car.

I only have one remote key.

No water. Car is garaged and kept dry and warm.
Where is the board located and how is access made ?

Thanks for the replays!

I commented to try to use the key in the door lock, but I re-read your post and see you did that.

Subscribing to see because I have this issue. Main key remote stopped working. Swapped battery, light comes, etc... still won't work. 2nd key remote still works like a champ.

The one thing I haven't done it take it into an auto parts store and try their "remote key tester" that tells you whether your key is emitting a radio or IR signal. I always forget.

Mine died 1 at a time, a year apart from each other.

Split your key case apart, it's the green electronic board which holds the battery and buttons for the remote. Look for minor cracks or separation near sauder points.

Will do next; remember, I get an RF signal...

I vaguely remember reading a post about re-syncing a key. Forgot the steps, and can't find the post; anyone seen this ?

I'm not sure either of my remote emit a signal, but the red light does flash.
